The Food & Drug Administration (FDA) announced the recall of popular baby wipes sold at Target on Friday, June 5.

Up & Up Fragrance Free and Up & Up Fresh Cucumber Scented Baby Wipes were recalled after customers complained of "discoloration," prompting a further investigation. The products were sold at Target stores and online at Target.com, according to the press release from the FDA.

The FDA identified Burkholderia cepacia complex and Burkholderia gladioli bacteria in samples of the product, which "may result in serious and life-threatening infections."

"B. cepacia germs can be resistant to antibiotics, making them difficult to treat," according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

The product was recalled in part due to the bacteria's higher threat to young children with immature immune systems that are more susceptible to infection. The products also pose a threat to immunocompromised people, for which the infection is "more likely to spread into the bloodstream, potentially leading to life-threatening sepsis or pneumonia," per the FDA.

The impacted Up & Up Fragrance Free Baby Wipes are packaged in plastic pouches with each pouch containing 20, 72, or 100 wipes, and have expiration dates marked between May 10 and Nov. 5, 2028. These wipes were manufactured between Nov. 7, 2025 and May 5.
