Barry Manilow has announced that he is taking a break from touring, days after canceling two of his Las Vegas residency dates.
The music legend, 83, made the announcement in a statement shared on Instagram Tuesday, Aug. 25.
“Hi everybody — Barry here,” the message began. “And I want you to be the first to know that we’re going to take a quick break.”

“We just finished a fantastic summer tour,” the “Mandy” singer continued. “29 shows in 68 days. The shows were fantastic. The audiences were fantastic. And I sounded fantastic. But it seems that we were pushing a little too hard.”
“Now we all need to sit down and shut up,” said Manilow. “So, we’re going to take a break until we return to the Westgate Las Vegas on October 8th. When I’ll be singing like a bird. I hope to see you then.”

New Westgate concert dates will be announced next week the statement noted.
PEOPLE has reached out to Manilow’s rep for comment.
Manilow’s announcement comes after he canceled his Friday, Aug. 21, and Saturday, Aug. 22, performances at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino.
“We’re very sorry but we have to cancel tonight’s and tomorrow’s performances. Due to technical and vocal problems, we’re unable to put on our show,” a statement from Manilow said.

The performer also postponed his Lexington, Ky., concert just before it was scheduled to begin on Tuesday, Aug. 4, stating “unforeseen circumstances.”

The performance was previously postponed in March due to Manilow’s lung cancer treatment.
