Authorities in Georgia have arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with a shooting that killed his girlfriend’s friend earlier this month.
The victim, 19-year-old Dre’Ana Shellman, was shot in Atlanta, Ga. on July 6 and pronounced dead after she was taken to the hospital, the Atlanta Police Department said in a statement last week.
Police did not name Shellman at that time, but she was identified in local outlets Atlanta News First and 11 Alive.
Amari Haugabook, 19, was arrested on Thursday, July 23, in connection with the shooting, per the statement.
According to police, the investigation revealed Haugabook was Shellman’s friend’s boyfriend and had allegedly attacked that friend just one month prior.
11 Alive reported, citing arrest warrants, that Haugabook had allegedly bear-sprayed his girlfriend in an incident in June. He is also accused of taking her phone when she tried to call 911 and spitting on her; he was charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, simple battery and hindering a person making an emergency telephone call in connection with that case, per the outlet. PEOPLE was unable to independently verify these charges.
On the day Shellman was killed, she was riding in the car with Haugabook’s girlfriend when he allegedly shot into the vehicle, 11 Alive and Atlanta News First reported.

Shellman’s family said she was a behavioral therapist who worked with children with autism and “lit up” every room she was in, Atlanta News First reported.
The family added, per 11 Alive, that she was a creative at heart and extremely talented, with her focus including makeup artistry, hairstyling and eyelash extensions.
Shellman is also being remembered a devoted older sister to her younger brother.

Police did not announce charges against Haugabook in their statement, but said charges are forthcoming.
