Benny Blanco has simple advice for winning someone like Selena Gomez.
The Grammy-winning producer, 38, said his secret to relationship success is his kindness. Blanco (real name Benjamin Levin) appeared on the Today show on Sunday, Sept. 13, where he opened up about his relationship with the six-time Emmy-nominated actress, 34.
“I didn’t use, like, black magic or anything,” Blanco said. “I just was nice.”
“It’s like understanding your partner and being able to talk about things, and have an open dialogue,” he continued. “Yeah, we’re in a really good spot, and I’m very fortunate. And I think, again, not being a dick and being nice to people put her in my orbit.”

For Blanco, having a nice partner was also a priority. On the Sept. 3 episode of The Mel Robbins Podcast, he said he created a list to manifest his wife, revealing the three things he was looking for, including a nice person.
“The first thing on my list was age-appropriate,” Blanco began. “Then the second thing on my list was, someone who’s nice. Nice, caring, compassionate, like someone who’s a nice person.”
As for the third thing, Blanco said he “wanted someone who woke up generally happy.”
He noted he and his therapist came up with some guidelines and a list after he said, “‘I really wanna find the right partner, and I’m doing something wrong. I can’t find the person that I’m gonna spend the rest of my life with, and I want to do that.’ ”

The couple first connected romantically in December 2023, after Gomez liked a fan account’s posts of the two and even commented, “He is my absolute everything in my heart.”
Then, in December 2024, the couple announced their engagement on Instagram. Less than a year later, on Sept. 27, 2025, the couple tied the knot in Santa Barbara, Calif.
Blanco recently detailed their wedding on the Sept. 8 episode of Friends Keep Secrets, sharing how it was the “dream” Gomez had for her wedding “since she was a kid.”

“We rented a palm tree farm and converted it into a — we just wanted to do something unconventional,” Blanco said. “She’s like, ‘I want to walk down the aisle and I want the aisle to be, like, Persian rugs off centered. I don’t want normal flowers. I don’t want it to feel bougie.’ ”
He continued, “So it was, like, incredible and you could tell we put so much effort into it, but also didn’t feel, like, stuffy.”
