Boots star Kieron Moore is grateful for the support of his former Netflix costars amid his feature-film debut in the provocative Blue Film.

Moore, 29, stars in Elliot Tuttle's bold Blue Film as Aaron Eagle, a sex worker who is offered $50,000 to spend the night with one of his online fans. However, the fan in question (played by Tony Award winner Reed Birney) has a strange connection to his past, pushing both men on an unexpected course of self-discovery that examines the balance of power in intimate relationships.

The actor recently appeared as Nicholas Slovacek in Netflix's Boots, a show that follows a closeted gay teenager enlisting in the U.S. military in 1990, when the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy banned openly LGBTQ+ people from joining.

Moore tells PEOPLE exclusively that his Boots castmates have been "super intrigued and been so supportive" of his role in Blue Film.

Moore added that two of his costars, Liam Oh and Angus O'Brien, even came to the New York City premiere of Blue Film.

"Everyone's just been so great," Moore tells PEOPLE. "That's a group of hungry, passionate boys. We all just want to do our best. And I've gained a real family with them, which is, again, that's another luxury of the job."

"You make these little families and you leave and you kind of cross paths down again," Moore continues. "That was different. We went through the trenches on that job and I'll support whatever they do and we still have this group chat and we check in and see what everyone's doing."

Moore said it was "very validating" to see his Boots castmates' reactions to his daring performance.

"I just don't think they thought I could do that," the actor added, noting that this performance was "a bit of a swing" for his usual range.

"And that's why I've been so excited for people to see it," Moore continued. "Look, I know it's such a strong piece and it's really going to unnerve people, but I think it's the first time I've ever been proud of my performance."

Blue Film is now available to rent or own on digital platforms.
