A Washington man is behind bars after authorities say the body of his 4-year-old son was discovered buried under their home.
Jacob Scott Bevins, 36, is accused of inflicting forceful trauma on Aiden Bevins, leading to the boy's death before burying him under his residence, KING 5 and KATU reported on Friday, June 5.
Bevins was booked on into the Grays Harbor County Jail on multiple charges, including second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter, unlawful disposal of remains, homicide by abuse, and assault of a child, on Friday, June 5, according to online jail records viewed by PEOPLE.
He was also booked on suspicion of making false or misleading statements to a public servant, per the records.
PEOPLE reached out to the Aberdeen Police Department for comment but did not immediately receive a response.
Aiden had allegedly been missing for a year when authorities found his body inside a tote bag, buried under a property that police allege was owned by Bevins’ grandmother on May 15, KING 5 reported, citing investigators with the Washington State Patrol Crime Scene Response Team.
Relatives reportedly told authorities both Bevins and the child’s grandmother lived in the home.
During a live broadcast, KING 5 reported that detectives began investigating the case when they received conflicting information regarding where Aiden was.
Bevins initially said the child was living out of state with family, but police allege that information was false, according to the news station.
Prosecutors have requested a 72-hour hold while criminal charges are considered after Bevins was taken into custody Friday morning, per KATU.
Aiden's biological mother told authorities she had not seen her son for approximately a year while incarcerated, and believed her child was with family in Idaho, the news station reported.
Bevins also reportedly told investigators that Aiden accidentally hit his head while running to the bathroom and died later, both outlets reported, citing a probable cause affidavit.
Prosecutors claim that a preliminary postmortem examination conducted at the Thurston County Coroner's Office revealed otherwise, alleging that it showed extensive injuries consistent with ongoing abuse, KATU reported.
