Both the cameras and Brian Cox were flashing at the Toronto International Film Festival!

On Thursday, Sept. 11, the 79-year-old Scottish actor and author arrived at the TIFF premiere of Glenrothan, his directorial debut, wearing a kilt; however, audience members couldn’t help but notice there was nothing underneath.

Following the screening of the British drama film, a Q&A was held in the Roy Thomson Hall where Cox was notified that a bit more than his bahookie was showing.

“Is it that bad?” the Succession actor asked, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

“Or that good?” Cox reportedly asked with a smile as the audience laughed. “You have to wear the kilt the proper way. The kilt is designed to make you cool and free. And it’s a f—— wonderful freedom.”

For the event, the Golden Globe Award-winning actor dressed in black from head to toe, honoring his Scottish heritage with a kilt to coordinate his layered look.

He also added a pair of black shades with rose-toned lenses.

Cox, who stars in Glenrothan as Sandy, was joined by his cast members Alexandra Shipp and Shirley Henderson. Siobhan Redmond and Alan Cumming were not present.

Glenrothan tells the story of “Two brothers following a violent exchange with their father on the day of their mother’s funeral, the younger of the two left their Highland home for America. After forty years they reunite in the land of their birth,” per a synopsis.

Cox’s kilt isn’t the first time the 007: Road to a Million host has caused a stir.

During a March 2022 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! he recalled referring to Johnny Depp as “overblown” and “overrated” in his memoir, Putting the Rabbit in the Hat.

In the memoir, Cox wrote, in part, that the Pirates of the Caribbean star was “Personable though I’m sure he is, [he] is so overblown, so overrated.”

However, while appearing as a guest on the late night talk show, he admitted, “I just thought I was being a bit harsh.”

Though Depp, 62, may have received an apology for Cox’s “harsh” critique, the same might not be said for the price of Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal’s performance of Othello on Broadway.

“It’s not right,” Cox said during an April 2025 talk at a London theatre, according to the Daily Mail.

“There’s amazing shows and hits, but there’s too much money stuff involved in American theatre where apparently, you’re paying $1,000 a night to see Othello.” The Churchill star added that he heard Gyllenhaal’s performance as the villainous Iago “is not particularly wonderful.”
