A bride says her friend is mad because she won’t let her stage “a fake proposal” at her wedding for her YouTube channel.
The 23-year-old bride detailed the dilemma in a post on Reddit, beginning by sharing that she is getting married in a few months and feeling “excited but also stressed” as the planning process has been “a bit of a whirlwind.”
She said her friend, who runs a popular YouTube channel featuring lifestyle and relationship content, recently asked if she could stage a fake proposal immediately after her wedding ceremony.
“She said it would be a great way for her to capture a ‘spontaneous romantic moment’ that would totally go viral and get a ton of views,” the bride wrote. “Apparently, she’d been planning it for weeks and already told the person she’d want to pretend to propose to her.”
The bride was not thrilled with the idea.
“I was honestly speechless,” she recalled. “I told her that I wasn’t okay with her using my wedding as content for her channel. I explained that this was a once-in-a-lifetime moment for me and my partner, and I didn’t want any part of it being staged for views.”
The bride said her friend continued to push, emphasizing that the staged proposal “would be ‘just for fun’ and a harmless addition to the day.”
But the bride put her foot down and refused to agree to her friend’s scheme, which led to a disagreement.
“She got super upset and accused me of being ‘selfish’ and said I was ‘ruining her content ideas,’ ” the bride wrote. “She also said that her followers would think it was a missed opportunity for ‘good, wholesome engagement content.’ ”

Now, the bride claimed, she is getting pressure from a few other friends who “think I should’ve just let her do it, especially since ‘it’s just a harmless video’ and ‘it’s not about me.’ ”
The bride concluded her post by asking fellow Redditors if she was wrong to decline her friend’s request.
In the comments, many people shared the opinion that the friend was being unreasonable and not respecting the importance of the day for the bride.
“This could totally ruin the vibe of your wedding day and is extremely disrespectful,” one wrote. “A real friend wouldn’t even think of doing this.”
“Your wedding isn’t her content farm,” another Redditor added. “The audacity to call you selfish while she’s literally trying to hijack your big day for clout is next-level delusional.”
“A real proposal at someone else’s wedding is insulting — a fake one is even worse,” yet another wrote, prompting someone else to reply, “Right?! I didn’t think proposing at someone’s wedding could be topped in rudeness but a fake proposal for content would do it.”
Other commenters even went so far as to advise the bride to disinvite her friend from the wedding, as they worry the YouTuber will still go ahead with the stunt against the bride’s wishes.
“You might want to uninvite her. There is a pretty good chance she is still going to do it. We all have seen these videos before, just for YT views,” one reader wrote.
One Redditor suggested a spot-on solution, joking, “Tell her to stage a fake wedding for her fake proposal.”
