A couple had a lucky run-in during their Boston wedding that made it unforgettable.
Kyle Higgins and Julia Kallis were walking to their wedding venue, the Omni Parker House, on Dec. 6 when they they had an unexpected run-in with America’s forefathers — or at least a group dressed like them.
“We thought they were reenacting something,” Kallis recalled to the Boston Globe. “I was like, ‘We should get out of the way. It’s the Boston Massacre or something.’ ”
However, the group ended up heading straight toward them as seen in a clip shared by photographer Greg Whitmer, who captured the interaction and posted it on Instagram set to the song “Yanky Doodle.”
The costumed group — who wore white wigs and colonial wear and had been on their way to Emmetts Irish Pub for a themed birthday celebration, per the Boston Globe — immediately crossed the street and headed right for the couple for an impromptu photoshoot straight out of the 1700s.
Several members of the group cried out for a “photo” and surrounded the bride and groom-to-be for a picture. This included a man carrying a U.S. flag, a man in colonial wear riding a stick horse and others dressed as colonial soldiers. The wedding couple were only happy to oblige as several of their new friends could be heard yelling out their “Congratulations!”
“When your wedding photos in Boston work out perfectly. Great timing. That’s a keeper!” Whitmer captioned the video, which garnered 1.6 million views as of Jan. 27 and nearly 150,000 likes.
The couple’s wedding photographer from Thomspon and Thompson Photography also shared the final snap on Instagram and captioned it, “We just wanted to post a couple wedding photos for the awesome @juliakallis and @kylehiggins51 who had some unexpected guests joining in on their portraits.”
Several people praised the unexpected chain of events in the comments for Whitmer’s video, including one person who wrote that it was “probably the most Boston thing I’ve seen online 🥂.” Another chimed in, “Omg this is incredible 👏.”
Others had questions for the costumed group, including one who jokingly inquired, “Is that Paul Revere on the stick horse? 💀.”
Another commenter said, “Maid of honor here confirming we did end the ceremony at Beantown Pub drinking cold Sam Adams overlooking cold Sam Adams and signing the decree for the newlyweds’ declaration of dependence.”

The couple — who met on the dating app Hinge in 2021 and immediately clicked, even finding out that they had attended the same college just a few years apart — exchanged their vows and “I do’s” in front of 135 of their closest family and friends.
During the ceremony, Higgins placed Kallis’ grandmother’s wedding ring on her ring finger and the couple had their first dance to Frankie Valli’s “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You.” They noted that the special run-in in front of their wedding venue was just one of several things that had been memorable on their big day.
“It just happened so fast,” Kallis told the Boston Globe. “It was funny that it ended up going viral because I think I told one person that we saw these people dressed as Colonial soldiers and took a picture. It wasn’t a huge moment of the day for us.”
