On April 12, a rep for Spears confirmed to PEOPLE that the singer had checked herself into a treatment facility. The move came after the “Womanizer” singer was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol on March 4 in Ventura, Calif.
A source later told PEOPLE that the singer's sons played a “big part” in getting her into a treatment facility.
“She was very upset and shaken after her arrest. And she's terrified of going to jail. It's taken weeks for her to realize that going to rehab is the best option,” the source said.
The source added that Spears’ two sons have also shown their support.
"Her sons were a big part of getting her to rehab. They've been clear with her. They just want her to be healthy," the insider said.
Spears left the treatment facility days before her May 4 arraignment, at which her lawyer accepted a plea deal on her behalf. The superstar pleaded guilty to reckless driving involving alcohol and drugs and was sentenced to 12 months of unsupervised probation and one day in jail (credited as served); she was also fined $571, must complete a three-month first-offender DUI program and agreed to see a psychologist once a week and a psychiatrist twice a month. “Through her plea today, Britney has accepted responsibility for her conduct,” her lawyer Michael A. Goldstein said in a statement.

"Thank you guys for all your support… spending time with family and friends is such a blessing !!! 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹," she wrote in her caption. "Stay kind !!!"
