A father who fired a handgun at a group of teenagers who egged his home last year could face up to three years in prison.

Craig Steven Miceli, of San Mateo, Calif., pleaded no contest to felony assault with a firearm and possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, reported CBS News.

"He does not have a significant record, but he is facing a potential jail sentence," San Mateo County District Attorney Stephen Wagstaffe told SFGATE of the 55-year-old. "You can't overreact to situations with gunfire."

According to prosecutors, the conflict between Miceli and the teenagers began when a group of 16 and 17-year-olds poured oil over Miceli's porch on May 23, 2025, allegedly targeting the home because they didn't like his daughter.

Two days later, the teenagers returned and threw raw eggs at Miceli's home. In response, Miceli is alleged to have shot at the teens' SUV twice as they drove away.

The boys "told the police they were out looking to pull pranks," Wagstaffe told PEOPLE at the time. "They said each boy threw one egg and hit the house."

Miceli allegedly told police his daughter was being bullied at school. "I think anybody can understand his frustration," Wagstaffe told PEOPLE last year.

"He felt his daughter had been being bullied at school. And now this had occurred on these two occasions. So we understand the anger. The difficulty is that anger doesn't get to be carried out by taking out a handgun and shooting at three teenagers."

Miceli told police that he intended to shoot the SUV's tires and that he tossed the gun into nearby Waterdog Lake. Per SFGATE, police later recovered an illegal automatic rifle from his home on a search warrant.

The 55-year-old remains in custody on a $25,000 cash bond and is set to be sentenced on Aug. 10.

The three teenagers involved won't be charged, but Wagstaffe warned young people that "pranks" can put teens in "bad situations," per SFGATE.

PEOPLE has reached out to the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office and the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office for comment but did not immediately hear back.
