Traffic co-founder Dave Mason died on April 19. He was 79.

The legendary guitarist and singer-songwriter is survived by his wife, Winifred Wilson, and his daughter, Danielle. He was also the father of one son, True, who died in 2006.

"On behalf of his family, it is with deep and profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of Dave Mason," a spokesperson for the Mason family told PEOPLE. The statement continued, adding that the "Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, celebrated songwriter, musician, singer, and author passed away peacefully at his home in Gardnerville, Nev."

The musician had been married to his fourth wife, Winifred, since September 2018.

Dave and Winifred were married on Sept. 5, 2018, the musician wrote on Facebook.

The couple shared a life on the road together, with Winifred accompanying Dave on his extensive touring schedule. According to Dave's official website, she served as "Tour Hostess, working behind the scenes at the concerts, as well as meeting fans and running the merchandise booth.

In 2017, Dave released the EP, Pink Lipstick, featuring the song, "Winifred."

"Back in 2018, I said 'Winifred' might be the next great Summer love song. This year, after everything—we both know it already is. Happy birthday to the heart of the backstage. I love you more than words and chords could say. 🎶💜," he wrote in a June 2025 Instagram post dedicated to his wife.

According to The Guardian, Dave had been married four times, while Winifred had been married once before, per her website.

Winifred is a yoga teacher and writer

Winifred was an essential member of Dave's touring company for years, but she is also a yoga teacher.

According to her website, Winifred started her yoga journey in 2003. In 2007, she left her executive career and started teaching yoga. She often posts videos of her yoga classes on YouTube, and in 2025, produced a series of videos to raise funds for victims of the Maui and Southern California wildfires.

Aside from yoga, Winifred is also a writer. She released a book, Downdog for Roaddogs: Yoga for Rock-and-Roll Tours (And Other Cosmic Journeys of the Heart), in 2022, and launched a substack, titled Merch Girl, two years later.

She worked in the fine art market for 20 years

Winifred earned a master's degree at Pepperdine University and attended Sotheby’s American Arts’ Program, per her website.

For 20 years, she had a career in the fine arts world, running a gallery company — but in 2007 she left it to teach yoga, and "seven years later," she joined Dave on the road.

Dave has a daughter, Danielle, from a previous marriage

In addition to Winifred, Dave is also survived by his daughter, Danielle, whom he welcomed during a previous relationship.

Despite her dad's decades of touring and releasing music, Danielle has stayed out of the spotlight, leading a private life.
