FBI isn’t returning quietly for season 9.

The hit CBS police procedural follows the fast-paced New York City field team office of the FBI, with the elite crew coming together to solve local and federal crimes as they navigate their own ups and downs.

Season 9 of the Dick Wolf-produced series will pick up after Omar Adom “OA” Zidan (Zeeko Zaki) seemingly gets fired after refusing to take part in a cover-up of an NSA bioweapon leak.

Despite what things looked like for OA, there’s no major shakeup to the cast itself, with Zaki and the show’s anchor Missy Peregrym, who plays Special Agent Maggie Bell, returning, as are the rest of the core actors, showrunner Mike Weiss confirmed to TV Insider.

What will FBI season 9 be about?

Season 8 of FBI ended on a cliffhanger, with OA seemingly fired from the FBI team after he and Maggie investigated a deadly bioweapon threat tied to shadowy government-linked player Anna Vorpe (Claire Coffee), who was at the center of the case, and he refused to be part of a cover-up.

The final twist of the episode showed that OA’s later job offer from Anna was part of a larger undercover plan involving Maggie and Isobel Castille (Alana De La Garza), the special agent in charge of the New York field office.

Showrunner Mike Weiss told TV Insider in May 2026 that no one beyond Maggie and Isobel was clued in at the time, including the man who fired OA, FBI ADIC Lawrence Green (Curtiss Cook).

“We wanted to go with the notion that this was so sensitive and taking down the strike team was so top secret that in the moment, the only people who knew were his partner and his boss,” Weiss said.

The storyline will play out as OA is embedded into Anna’s operation, with Weiss hinting to the outlet that the rest of the team should be clued in sooner rather than later during season 9.

“Getting to see OA on a different team will be fun to watch and film. I’m excited to play something different, but I’m also eager to get back to the team,” Zaki told TV Insider in May 2026. “But it will be fun regardless.”

For her part, Peregrym’s character had emotional storylines in season 8, including the death of her sister.

“I’ll never be the same to a certain degree,” Peregrym told TV Insider of her scene. “Never. I’ll never be the same. Which again was why I was so scared to go this far with my character.”

She continued, “Playing something for eight years and then all of a sudden having a loss like this, you don’t ever go back to the person you were before.”

Who is in the FBI season 9 cast?

Zidan will return as OA in a key part of season 9, as will his previous partner Maggie, played by Peregrym.

Also returning are De La Garza as Isobel, John Boyd as Special Agent Stuart Scola, Juliana Aidén Martinez as Special Agent Eva Ramos and Jeremy Sisto as Assistant Special Agent in Charge Jubal Valentine.

When will season 9 of FBI come out?

The third season will premiere on CBS on Monday, Oct. 5, 2026.

The ninth season of FBI will air Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT in the fall on CBS and will stream on Paramount+.
