Grey's Anatomy knows a thing or two about dramatic finales — and season 22's was no different.
The Shonda Rhimes-created medical drama concluded another season on May 7 with the season 22 finale, titled "Bridge over Troubled Water."
The penultimate episode ended with several shocking bombshells: not only did Dr. Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) receive a job offer in Paris, but she learned that her best-friend-turned-ex-husband Dr. Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) was driving on the bridge that the hospital just learned collapsed.
A few weeks before the episode, Raver and McKidd announced that the finale would also be their last episode, leaving many fans to wonder about how their characters' stories would end. Would Dr. Hunt and Dr. Altman get a happy ending after several highs and lows in their relationship, or would they get the McSteamy (Patrick Dempsey) treatment with a tragic death?
Here's everything to know about the Grey's Anatomy season 22 finale.
Is Dr. Hunt alive?

Ahead of the final episode, the biggest cliffhanger was whether or not Dr. Hunt survived the bridge collapse, which Dr. Altman learned about as it happened in the middle of him leaving her a voicemail.
Though the finale opens up with Dr. Hunt in his car underwater, the trauma surgeon is alive and alert. After escaping his vehicle, he jumps straight into action and helps other victims of the collapse, eventually amputating a woman's leg on the scene.
Back at the hospital, Dr. Altman has no idea whether or not he survived.
She eventually learns Dr. Hunt's fate when she sees his keychain mark on a patient that has come in, signaling that he is alive. They don't reunite until she is called to an operating room, where Dr. Hunt has his hands deep in a patient's organs and tells Dr. Altman that he could use some help.

Dr. Meredith Grey's (Ellen Pompeo) boyfriend, Dr. Nick Marsh (Scott Speedman), was on his way to Grey Sloan for a conference — but as we learn in the finale, he was in one of the nearly 60 cars on the bridge that collapsed.
Everyone is shocked when he arrives via ambulance in critical condition, and the surprises continue when a doctor asks Dr. Grey if he is her husband, and she responds yes.
Dr. Marsh ultimately undergoes a successful surgery, with Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) stepping in to operate, despite being benched by Dr. Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) after he found out she lied and covered up for Dr. Benson Kwan, who gave a patient an experimental, non-FDA approved treatment.
When Dr. Marsh wakes up from surgery, Dr. Grey is there waiting for him and suggests they get married.
She tells him that his injury was "bad enough" to make her think of all of the people she lost. She's come to the realization that not marrying him isn't protecting her from anything, and that she doesn't want her fear to get in the way of their happy life. Meanwhile, Dr. Marsh says he's wanted to marry her since the last time he was in that hospital bed, seemingly nodding to the early days of their love story.
Where do everyone's romances stand?

As if Dr. Grey's surprise proposal wasn't enough, the Grey's Anatomy finale was full of several other make-ups and breakups.
Dr. Simone Griffith (Alexis Floyd) has been exploring a romance with new intern Wes Bryant (Trevor Jackson) for the past few episodes. However, in the finale, she reveals to fellow resident Dr. Jules Millan (Adelaide Kane) that she slipped up and slept with her ex-boyfriend (another resident), Lucas Adams (Niko Terho).
By the end of the episode, Dr. Adams implies that he didn't necessarily regret their rekindling the night before. But when faced with the option to go grab a drink with Dr. Adams or go to dinner with Dr. Bryant, Dr. Griffith chooses the latter, who still doesn't know about her encounter with her ex.
When Dr. Millan isn't listening to her fellow residents' messy relationship drama, she's focusing on her own romance. She and Dr. Winston Ndugu (Anthony Hill), an attending, have been keeping their romance quiet since they first got together earlier this season.
After watching Dr. Grey's reaction to Dr. Marsh's incident, Dr. Millan realizes that she wants others to know how much she and Dr. Ndugu mean to each other in case something happens. Winston says that he is on the same page and the pair share a heartfelt kiss.
Though there isn't any kind of public declaration of their relationship immediately following the confession, their secret is semi-out: Dr. Ben Warren (Jason George) sees them leave the closet together and tells his wife Miranda that she won't "believe" or "like" what he just saw.
Dr. Bailey asks him to wait before sharing the news, as she is preoccupied with larger problems — specifically the pattern of government funding cuts. (She has discovered that those cuts disrupted critical bridge repairs and ultimately led to the collapse.) So, she begins to consider getting a master's degree in public health, hoping to change policies from within.
Meanwhile, Dr. Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington) has recently welcomed a baby with her husband, fellow surgeon Dr. Atticus Lincoln (Chris Carmack), otherwise known as Link. In the finale, she expresses to Link that she's having doubts about her profession and considering leaving medicine.
While Link — who is still recovering from his injuries following an earlier explosion — promises to support her no matter what, he also seems to be hiding something big from her: as she exits the room, he pulls out a bottle of painkillers.
As for Dr. Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone), she's been sleeping with Dr. Toni Wright (Jen Landon), an old medical school acquaintance who just began working at the hospital. Dr. Shepherd had been waiting for Dr. Wright to make up her mind after her ex came back into her life wanting to get back together. In the end, Dr. Wright shows up at her door and shares that her ex-wife wants to move to Seattle for her.
However, that doesn't mean she's choosing her ex. Instead, she tells Dr. Shepherd that she is "falling" for her. But when Dr. Wright opens Dr. Shepherd's door, she's shocked to see a half-dressed Dr. Cass Beckman (Sophia Bush) sitting on her couch.
Is Dr. Kwan fired?

In the penultimate episode, Dr. Benson Kwan (Harry Shum Jr.) learned he was fired after Dr. Webber discovered it was him, not Dr. Bailey, who gave the experimental drug to the patient. However, amid the bridge collapse crisis, Dr. Altman insists that he can step in to help, much to Dr. Webber's dismay.
In the finale, Dr. Kwan tries to make a case to Dr. Webber for why his golden record makes up for his mistake, which as he points out, might've saved someone's life.
However, Dr. Webber won't budge. He tells the surgical resident that he'll call security if he sees him again, and makes Dr. Kwan turn in his badge for good.
Is Dr. Altman taking the job in Paris?

Dr. Hunt's near-death serves as a wake-up call to Dr. Altman, who realizes that she wants to be with him and is willing to turn down Paris. (In the prior episode, he was angry when she shared the Paris job offer, expressing outrage at her considering moving across the world while they're raising their family.)
"I have lived all over the world and the only thing, the only thing that makes me feel like home is you," she tells him, assuring him that other opportunities will come.
Dr. Hunt, though, tells her that she should take the job in Paris, and he and their children will join her.
"You were right. You've moved continents for me, you have changed jobs, it's my turn to go with you," he says. "I have spent my whole life chasing adventure, but the best thing I've ever done is our family. I would do anything for the three of you. You're my life."
After an emotional farewell montage that spans the surgeons' moments since stepping into Grey Sloan, the episode ends with them leaving the hospital and going "home" — together after all.
