A popular brand of cinnamon sold in six states has been recalled because it may contain elevated levels of lead.
On Thursday, Sept. 24, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that Galil Importing Corp. of Hauppauge, New York, is recalling its Lior Cinnamon Ground Seasoning.
The seasoning, which comes in 90-gram transparent plastic containers in cases of six, was distributed to retail stores, grocery stores, delis and supermarkets located in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Texas, Florida and Illinois between Nov. 18, 2025, and Sept. 7, 2026.
The affected containers have UPC 794711005484 and lot code GAP11304, which you can find on the side under the ingredient line.

The recall follows a sample collected and analyzed by the Maryland Department of Health (MDH) revealed elevated levels of lead in the product. No illnesses have been reported to date.
After the discovery, Galil Importing Corp. immediately initiated the voluntary recall and began notifying customers to stop distributing and selling the affected product and to place remaining inventory on hold, according to the FDA.
“Consumers should not consume the product and should either discard it or return it to the place of purchase for a refund,” the FDA said.
According to the FDA, consumers should know that short-term exposure to very low levels of lead may not cause symptoms, as increased blood lead levels may be the only apparent sign of lead exposure.
“Additional signs and symptoms of lead exposure are more likely with acute exposure to higher levels of lead or chronic exposure to lead,” the FDA said. “While lead can affect nearly every bodily system, its effects depend upon the amount and duration of lead exposure and age/ body weight.”
Galil Importing Corp. said that it has begun investigating its supplier and has implemented enhanced testing and supplier verification.
