The Alameda County District Attorney's Office said in a June 9 news release that Shacory Carnell Daniels, 39, has been charged with murder in connection with the May 31 alleged robbery and shooting. Daniels was arrested on June 4 in in Menlo Park, about 30 miles from Oakland, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Prosecutors said that he has been charged with murder, an attempted robbery-related felony, personal and intentional discharge of a firearm, and possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon. He is next set to appear in court on June 30.

Solomon's family members told local outlet KTVU that he and a friend were leaving a nightclub and were walking to their cars when someone approached them and asked for a chain around his neck.

"This man approached him again and said, 'Give me your chain,' " his mother, Florence Edward, told the outlet. "My son says, 'You can have…' He was ready to take off everything."

Solomon's friend told Edwards that he was walking toward his own parked car when he heard shots being fired.

"He was scared of guns," Emmanuel Solomon, the victim's brother, told the outlet. "For him to die of gun violence, that's sad and really tough for us."

According to a GoFundMe page set up to assist with funeral expenses and to help provide for his 11-year-old daughter and father, Solomon immigrated to Oakland from Ghana and studied at Samuel Merritt University in Oakland before becoming a nurse.
