A Houston man accused of killing the mother of his unborn child was arrested in Louisiana less than two months after pleading guilty to assaulting her.
Kevin Faux, 24, was taken into custody April 20 in Jefferson Parish in connection with the death of Ashanti Allen, 23, according to a Houston Police Department press release. Authorities said Faux is awaiting extradition to Harris County. He was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service, and online jail records reviewed by PEOPLE show he is being held in Jefferson Parish with a hold preventing his release.
Investigators identified Faux as the father of Allen’s unborn child during the investigation and charged him in connection with her death, authorities said.

According to court records cited by FOX 26 Houston and KHOU, Faux had pleaded guilty less than two months earlier to assaulting Allen. He had originally been charged with assault–continuous family violence, a third-degree felony, before accepting a plea deal on Feb. 19 to a reduced charge of assault of a family member. He was sentenced to 280 days in county jail and given credit for time already served.
Allen’s mother, Trisa Gaines Colbert, has said she believes her daughter’s death could have been prevented. “If they would have kept him, my daughter would have still been here,” she said, according to KPRC.
PEOPLE previously reported that Allen, who was eight months pregnant with her first child, was last seen April 8 and was reported missing April 10 after her mother received a message from her phone reading, “I’m leaving, not coming back.”

Her body was found April 16 near a bayou in Houston’s Chimney Rock area, PEOPLE previously reported. Volunteers with Texas EquuSearch assisted in the search.
Allen’s father, Edward Allen, described the loss as overwhelming.
“Hearing this bad news of my daughter, I cried, but my body is now just numb. I don’t know what to think anymore. How can you let people do what they do and walk free amongst us?” he said, according to KHOU.
“We are heartbroken to share that our beloved baby sister, Ashanti Allen, was tragically taken from us. She was eight months pregnant, and we were all so excited to welcome our nephew, Jaxon Allen, into the world. We never got the chance to meet him. Our family is devastated beyond words and now facing the unimaginable task of laying both our sister and baby Jaxon to rest,” a GoFundMe created by her family reads.
