J. Cole canceled a California performance hours before he was set to hit the stage after one of his crew members was killed in a truck accident.
The Grammy winner, 41, was scheduled to perform at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, Calif., on Thursday, Aug. 27, but the venue announced the show was canceled.
“Following the tragic passing of a member of the touring crew in a trucking accident this morning, J. Cole’s show scheduled for tonight, August 27, at Golden 1 Center has been canceled,” a spokesperson for the arena said in a statement posted to Facebook.

“Our thoughts are with the crew member’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” the statement, which was also shared by Live Nation, continued.
PEOPLE reached out to the California Highway Patrol for comment, but did not immediately receive a response.
The accident happened just after 6:05 a.m. local time on Interstate 5 in Yolo County between the Zamora and Dufour areas and northwest of Woodland, KCRA reported, citing the CHP.
An overturned big rig transporting the 41-year-old rapper’s equipment was driven by the victim, per the local news station.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident, the Sacramento Bee reported.
The driver drifted onto the right shoulder, and when he tried to get back on the road, he lost control, and the truck overturned, authorities told CBS News Sacramento.
“It’s unknown at this time, may have been a distraction or fell asleep. Unfortunately, the solo occupant did not survive the crash,” Sgt. David Barker of the California Highway Patrol said in a statement, CBS News Sacramento reported.
Thursday’s concert was part of Cole’s The Fall-Off World Wour, which has more than 40 stops scheduled between Saturday, Aug. 29, and Dec. 12, ending in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The “She Knows” artist had several upcoming stops throughout California, including Oakland on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 30. He is also still scheduled to perform at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena on Sept. 1 and at Intuit Dome on Sept. 3 in Inglewood.

Guests who purchased Sacramento tickets through Ticketmaster will be refunded automatically, Live Nation and Golden 1 Center said. Remaining guests can request refunds where tickets were originally purchased.
Reps for J. Cole did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
