Gilpin has nothing but praise for the “brilliant” Lopez, who leads the new Netflix rom-com

Betty Gilpin had a front-row seat to Jennifer Lopez in all her glory in their new movie.
Asked about working with Lopez up close in the new rom-com Office Romance (on Netflix now), Gilpin, 39, has praise for her costar's beauty inside and out. “Well, speaking of up close, she's the most beautiful person I've ever seen up close,” she says.
“It's crazy. It's so much crazier than you could ever imagine,” quips Gilpin. “She's an alien on this earth, aesthetically.”

The two actresses star in the Ol Parker-directed Office Romance as executives at an airline company where a rising lawyer (played by co-writer Brett Goldstein) begins falling for Lopez's CEO.
“She is the rom-com queen,” says Gilpin of Lopez, 56. “Because I think within that otherworldly, beautiful shell, she's a brilliant actress and she also has that essential rom-com quality, which is being willing to really make fun of yourself and be a clown… It's a joy to watch.”
Lopez also has, per Gilpin, the most important element in any romantic comedy movie: chemistry.
The superstar's connection with Goldstein, 45, “was really there from day one,” recalls the GLOW alum. “They have that thing on screen that you can't manufacture… That's always a dice roll because you never know until you're filming if that's going to be present.”

But, she adds with a laugh, “it's hard not to have chemistry with Jennifer. I felt like we had really good friend chemistry. She's just that kind of actor. She's just so available and playful and brilliant and sexy and loves what she does.”
The Office Romance cast and crew, she concludes, must “bring their A-game when she's around.”
