The trailer for Jumanji: Open World is here, and is setting the stage for an action-packed conclusion to the beloved film franchise.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, Alex Wolff and Karen Gillan all reprise their roles in the fifth and final installment in the series, and the third in which this cast has appeared.
The trailer sees Spencer Gilpin (Wolff, 28) spending time with family and friends at a restaurant during the holiday season, when a rhinoceros bursts into the building. Amid the chaos, Spencer spots Dr. Xander “Smolder” Bravestone (Johnson, 54), Professor Sheldon “Shelly” Oberon (Black, 56), Franklin “Mouse” Finbar (Hart, 47) and Ruby Roundhouse (Gillan, 38) from the two previous Jumanji films—only they are video game characters that have escaped into the real world, and all of them are “stuck in demo mode.”
The film will follow the complicated journey of placing the players back into the game, as they all swap bodies with real people in Spencer’s life.

The cast also includes Danny DeVito, Nick Jonas, Awkwafina, Marin Hinkle, Bebe Neuwirth, Lamorne Morris and Rhys Darby.
The Jumanji franchise is inspired by the 1981 children’s book by Chris Van Allsburg. In 1995, it was adapted into a hit film starring Robin Williams and a then-13-year-old Kirsten Dunst. Although Williams’ film was a success, it didn’t inspire a direct sequel, although there was a 2005 spin-off adaptation of Van Allsburg’s book Zathura.
The Jumanji franchise experienced a revival in 2017 when Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle hit theaters. It was quickly followed by a sequel, Jumanji: The Next Level, in 2019.

The original film tells the fantastical story of an immersive board game that transports players into the jungle, and can freeze players in the game should they neglect to finish it.

The last three installments in the franchise take the concept of the original board game and adapt it to the use of modern technology, instead placing the plot into the context of a video game.
Jumanji: Open World hits theaters on Christmas Day 2026.
