Kate Mansi is stepping into a new role after saying goodbye to General Hospital.
The Daytime Emmy winner, 38, will star as Catherine in Arizona Theatre Company’s upcoming production of David Auburn’s Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning play Proof, marking her first major acting role since exiting the ABC soap earlier this year.
Launching ATC’s 59th season, Proof begins performances Sept. 27 in Tucson before moving to the Tempe/Phoenix area Oct. 24.
For Mansi, the part has been more than two decades in the making. The actress was just 19 when she performed one of Catherine’s monologues while auditioning for a conservatory, according to ATC, and the play has remained personally significant to her ever since.
“Proof has held profound meaning for Kate since she auditioned for a conservatory at 19 with Catherine’s monologue,” the theater company says in a post on social media. “Conversations about the play with her grandmother, Honey, gave them a shared language for mental difference.”
Mansi will star opposite Scott Lowell as Catherine’s father, Robert, with Rishan Dhamija playing Hal and Emma Childe Maltby portraying her sister, Claire.

The play was an immediate hit when it first premiered Off-Broadway at Manhattan Theatre Club in May 2000. Directed by David Sullivan, the show transferred to Broadway in October of that year and went on to win three Tony Awards — including Best Play and Best Actress for Mary-Louise Parker. Later that year, it won the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
In 2005, a feature film adaptation starring Gwyneth Paltrow, Anthony Hopkins and Jake Gyllenhaal was released.
Proof recently returned to Broadway for its first-ever revival, with Ayo Edebiri playing Catherine opposite Don Cheadle as her father, Robert. Directed by Thomas Kail, the limited engagement ran at the Booth Theatre from March 31 through July 19.

Mansi’s return to the stage comes months after she announced she was leaving General Hospital, where she had played Kristina Corinthos-Davis since 2023.
In May, Mansi revealed she had “made the very difficult decision” to depart the long-running soap after three years and more than 200 episodes, explaining that other professional opportunities were among the reasons behind her exit.
“I have a few new projects that require my full attention,” she said at the time, adding that she also wanted more flexibility to travel while her husband, producer Matt McInnis, worked abroad and she continued developing projects in Los Angeles.
Mansi called her time on General Hospital “such a meaningful and unforgettable ride,” while executive producer Frank Valentini said the “door is always open” for her to return.
Prior to joining General Hospital, Mansi was best known to daytime audiences for playing Abigail Deveraux on Days of Our Lives, a role she began in 2011 and which earned her the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 2017.
Her upcoming turn in Proof also marks a return to her theatrical roots. A Pepperdine University graduate, Mansi previously appeared onstage in If All the Sky Were Paper at Los Angeles’ Kirk Douglas Theatre.
