Katy Perry is reportedly being investigated by police following Ruby Rose’s allegations that the singer sexually assaulted her in an Australian nightclub nearly 20 years ago.

On Wednesday, April 15 (local time), Victoria Police confirmed to Australian media outlets The Sydney Morning Herald and the Herald Sun that they are investigating a historical sexual assault that occurred in Melbourne in 2010.

Detectives from the Melbourne Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation team are investigating Rose’s allegations, per the Herald Sun

“Police have been told the incident occurred at a licensed premises in Melbourne’s CBD. As the investigation remains ongoing, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage," a Victoria Police spokesman told The SMH and the Herald Sun.

PEOPLE has reached out to Victoria Police for comment. A representative for Perry did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment on Wednesday.

Rose, 40, alleged that Perry, 41, sexually assaulted her while they were out at Spice Market nightclub in Melbourne when she was in her “early 20s,” PEOPLE previously reported.

A rep for Perry denied the claims in a statement shared on Monday.

The rep said, “The allegations being circulated on social media by Ruby Rose about Katy Perry are not only categorically false, they are dangerous, reckless lies. Ms. Rose has a well-documented history of making serious public allegations on social media against various individuals, claims that have repeatedly been denied by those named."

Australian actress Rose confirmed to the Herald Sun on Tuesday that she had taken the matter to the police.

“As of this afternoon, I have finalised all my reports. This means I am no longer able to comment, repost, or talk publicly about any of those cases, or the individuals involved,” she shared on Threads on Tuesday.

“It’s going to look like I am ignoring everything from supportive messages, to other people’s experiences, but I’m not,” she continued. “This is a standard request from the police and in many ways, quite the relief. I can start the healing process now. And temporary move forward. I love you all so much.”

In a post on Threads the day before, Rose said, “Today I will be walking into a police station to see if any of my experiences can be investigated. I imagine they are past their statute of limitations, but all the more reason to try.”

The Orange Is the New Black star made the claims against Perry in posts she shared on Threads on Sunday.

Rose replied to an article shared by Complex about the “Roar” singer reacting to Justin Bieber's Coachella performance over the weekend. The John Wick: Chapter 2 star alleged in the comments section, "Katy Perry sexual assaulted me at spice market nightclub in Melbourne. Who gives a s— what she thinks."

In a follow-up reply, Rose added that she was "only in my early 20s" at the time of the alleged incident and "It has taken almost 2 decades to say this publicly."

"Though I am so grateful to have made it long enough to find my voice, it just shows how much of an impact trauma and sexual assault takes," she wrote.

In another Threads post, Rose alleged that Perry "saw me 'resting' on my best friends lap to avoid her and bent down, pulled her underwear to the side and rubbed her disgusting vagina on my face until my eyes snapped open and I projectile vomitted on her."

Rose had previously claimed that she was "not interested in filing a report over this" when she responded to a Threads user who claimed she was speaking out in connection to a Twitter feud she once had with Perry in 2017, when she slammed Perry's song "Swish Swish."

The actress went on to claim on Threads that Perry is "more than welcome to sue me (she won't, because it happened, I have photos and it was literally in public and witnessed by multiple people).” “Plus there is so much more that happened in the years leading up to her silly song she won't want me discussing. The psychological manipulation was strong with that one,” she added.

In an Instagram Stories post, the musician wrote, "i love you" alongside an image of her song "By the Grace of God" from her 2013 album Prism.
