Madonna and her daughter Lola Leon are acing the test together.
On Monday, June 29, the pop superstar's daughter teased a track on Madonna's highly anticipated new album, Confessions II, titled "The Test."
Posting a throwback photo of her holding hands with her mom, the "T Shirt" singer, 29, captioned the snap with emotional lyrics that appear to be inspired by their mother-daughter relationship.
"A hand tenderly reaching out to me / You are my reason to be / What I want, or look like / What I wear / All the clothes on my back / And what I attract," read the lyrics. "I know they tried to put us to the test / I'm not so different time is knocking on my doorstep / You show me your razor sharp laser vision / Real brave will make you feel kind of different."
The peek at their new song comes ahead of Leon's scheduled appearance with Madonna for her iHeartRadio and TikTok Live album release party in London on Thursday. According to a release, Madonna will join Bob The Drag Queen for a behind-the-scenes look at her creative process for the new album, while producer Stuart Price and Leon are also taking part in the live stream.
Last month, Leon released her own single, a personal song titled "T Shirt" — which she said on Instagram was inspired after she left a "relationship where I completely lost myself and felt haunted at every turn by lingering, unwelcome spirits" — accompanied by a moving video featuring cameos from loved ones, including her paternal grandmother and closest friends.
“When I first put out music, I was so scared, literally shaking,” she told W in May. “At first, you’ve got to keep this fierce, c— wall up in front of you, just in case you get hurt. But now I’m at a place where I feel comfortable to an extent sharing that part of myself.”
During an interview with Graham Norton for BBC earlier this month, Madonna, 67, opened up about their new collaboration, revealing her daughter "approached" her with the idea.
"She's been very reticent to work with me. She doesn't want to be perceived as my daughter taking advantage of her privilege," she said. "She has a much better voice than I do. She didn't ask for this… she came to me and said, 'Let's write a song together. I think it'll be a very healing experience.'"
