Luke Evans hopes to become a parent in the near future.
In his memoir Boy from the Valleys: My Unexpected Journey, which was released in the United States on April 22, the Welsh actor, 46, opened up about his desire to start a family with his partner Fran Tomas.
“I do want to have children, and hope I’m able to do so in the next five years, whether that’s through adoption or surrogacy,” he wrote. “I’ve talked about it with my partner, Fran, a Spanish architect whom I’ve been with for the past three years and with whom I can certainly see myself becoming a parent.”
He went on to note that while he always thought he would be “a young dad,” he wasn’t ready to take on fatherhood just yet.
“I’ve realized now that I needed to find my feet and have my own journey before I could slow down and make changes in my life in order to focus on children,” he continued in the book. “As long as I look after myself, I can hopefully be an able-bodied, energetic 70-year-old with a 20-year-old kid.”
In the meantime, Evans wrote the couple was talking about getting a dog together, which the Good Grief star said “sort of feels like the first step in bringing a new life into our relationship.”
Since writing his book, which was released in the United Kingdom on Nov. 7, 2024, Evans found his four-legged friend.
In an Instagram post on Jan. 27, he shared a photo of a small dog cuddled on his chest with the simple caption: “Mine. 💛.” Days later, he posted a video of the dog being walked on a leash as he gave some insight into the animal’s personality. “Velvet ears, black boop, nap champion..🌭🐾,” he wrote.
In yet another post showing the dog — which appears to be a miniature dachshund — dozing on a rug by a fireplace, Evans revealed that her name is Lala.
Last year, Evans spoke about his relationship with Tomas in an interview for Out magazine’s September-October 2024 issue, saying the pair are “building a life together.” He praised his partner for keeping him “grounded” and “calm” in “this strange world that I live in,” referring to his Hollywood career.
“He’s a great human being. He’s the best part of me, for sure. He’s kind, calm. He’s happy. He’s positive. He’s a hard worker,” he said of Tomas. “He literally makes me a better person. And he has to put up with my s—, which I can’t imagine what that would be like.”
“We’re happy, and I’m very grateful that I’ve met that person,” Evans added.

Months later, while appearing on PEOPLE on 10, the Weekend in Taipei star said he and Tomas — who publicly confirmed their relationship when they stepped out arm-in-arm at a gala in December 2022 — are “a great team in life.”
“He’s my best friend. He’s the calm, deep waters, and I am the rushing, bubbly water. And between the two of us, we can solve anything,” he said.
The pair run a clothing and lifestyle brand, BDXY, together, and Evans told PEOPLE that the business is “just is an extension of our life together.”
“We work really well together,” he said. “He blows my mind. He’s so impressive in everything he does, in the business — and in life.”
Evans’ memoir, Boy from the Valleys: My Unexpected Journey, was released in the U.S. on April 22 everywhere books are sold.
