A Georgia man was arrested after allegedly trying to run a woman over multiple times after she greeted him during a morning jog.

Jesse Allen Davis was charged with felony aggravated assault and a misdemeanor hit-and-run in connection with the July 19 incident in Marietta, Ga., according to jail records viewed by PEOPLE.

The woman said Davis, 21, tried to hit her three times while she was jogging near Sedgefield Apartments, per ABC affiliate WSB-TV. Davis struck the woman with his vehicle in the parking lot of the complex after she wished him “good morning,” the outlet reported, citing police.

“He got into a vehicle, and for whatever reason he attempted to strike her with the vehicle while she was in the parking lot,” Cobb County Police Department Public Information Officer Eric Smith said, according to WSB-TV.

“He attempted to strike her with the vehicle two additional times,” Smith added of Davis.

According to police, Davis hit a parked car and a pole after trying to run over the jogger.

The woman hid behind a dumpster to get away from the Sandy Springs, Ga., man — who she says is a stranger — according to the outlet, and called 911.

WSB-TV spoke with several community members about the incident.

Lloydethan White, who said he saw Davis speeding in the neighborhood, told the outlet that he was shocked upon learning of a random attack at the Marietta apartment complex. “When I had seen him, he almost hit my car and her,” he said of Davis.

“I think it’s wrong that a woman has to fear for her life,” White told WSB-TV, “and she’s just trying to go about her normal day and workout.”

Meanwhile, an unidentified neighbor claimed to WSB-TV that Davis almost hit him as well, and said he asked the woman who was struck if she was OK after the alleged hit-and-run.
