A man died and five other people were injured in a boat crash in Barnegat Bay, N.J., on Monday, May 25.
New Jersey State Police were called to the scene at approximately 5:45 p.m. local time when a boat struck a day marker near Long Beach Island, according to CBS Philadelphia and NJ.com. Two people were ejected and fell overboard. Authorities transported them to a local hospital in critical condition.
The victim, who state police identified as Gunnar Pearson, was one of the two people hospitalized, according to ABC 6. He was 28 and a resident of Barnegat. The remaining four injured people were brought to the hospital and treated for minor injuries, according to the outlet.
The boat was towed on Tuesday, May 26, as authorities investigate the cause of the crash, per ABC. Bystanders described the conditions as foggy around the time of the crash.

"Visibility wasn't great, though, today, especially around high tide," Steve Helewa of Brant Beach, N.J. told the outlet. "We had some weather coming through, so sometimes you get bogged down behind the fog."
