Marjorie Taylor Greene Bashes Trump Again — and It’s Not About Epstein This Time

NEED TO KNOW

  • Marjorie Taylor Greene has spoken out with rare criticism of President Donald Trump’s policies
  • The Georgia congresswoman took to social media on Thursday, July 24, to call out a new executive order, in which the Trump administration is pushing for rapid expansion of AI technology in the U.S. and around the world
  • Greene’s concerns include “potentially devastating effects” AI data centers could have on the country’s already-dwindling water supply

Marjorie Taylor Greene has historically been one of the most loyal MAGA supporters in Congress. But recent events have pushed her to speak out against President Donald Trump on multiple issues.

Not only has the Republican representative from Georgia criticized the president over his handling of the Epstein files and bombing of Iranian nuclear sites, but on Thursday, she took to social media to call out one of his latest executive orders.

On July 23, the president issued three orders related to data and artificial intelligence, including one titled, “Promoting The Export of the American AI Technology Stack.”

The order reads, in part, “The United States must not only lead in developing general-purpose and frontier AI capabilities, but also ensure that American AI technologies, standards, and governance models are adopted worldwide to strengthen relationships with our allies and secure our continued technological dominance.”

Greene addressed the Trump administration’s demand for U.S. AI growth in a lengthy post on X on Thursday.

“My deep concerns are that the EO demands rapid AI expansion with little to no guardrails and breaks,” she wrote, in part. “Rushed AI expansion and data centers being built all over the country from state to state with no plan in regards to environmental and critical water supply impact has massive future implications and problems.”

The congresswoman referenced the “water wars” that have taken place between southern states like Georgia, Florida, Alabama and Tennessee, noting that the massive amount of water that AI data centers require to cool the machines could devastate the supply.

“Just wait and see how bad lawsuits will become when counties are competing for data centers, in order to get rid of county property taxes, and the unintended results is new data centers that steal the water from surrounding homes and neighboring counties and states,” she wrote.

“Competing with China does not mean become like China by threatening state rights, replacing human jobs on mass scale, creating mass poverty, and creating potentially devastating effects on our environment and critical water supply,” Greene continued. “This needs a careful and wise approach. The AI EO takes the opposite.”

The congresswoman previously spoke out against AI language in Trump’s “Big, Beautiful” budget bill. In her recent post, she reiterated another of her major concerns, noting, “[The EO] also contains the threat of withholding federal funds from states who regulate AI, which is an absolute threat to federalism.”

Greene also briefly joined the vocal coalition of Republicans calling out Trump for going back on his campaign promise to release the Epstein files. She posted about “proudly” co-sponsoring Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie’s demand for the House to vote on releasing the evidence related to the late billionaire’s 2019 sex trafficking trial.

Greene changed her tune last week when Trump said he had directed Attorney General Pam Bondi to release grand jury testimony related to the case — an order that a federal judge immediately declined.

“If President Trump was guilty of anything regarding Jeffrey Epstein, Democrats would have used it against him the past 4 years,” she wrote on X, pivoting back to Team Trump. “And these same Democrats feigning outrage over pedophiles, defend drag queen story time, naked men dancing in front of children at pride parades, and mentally ill men in girls and women’s bathrooms. Democrats, spare us your fake outrage.”

Still, she has sounded unconvinced that Trump is making the right call in keeping some files private, warning in an X post on Monday that the MAGA base was at risk of turning on Trump for good over the Epstein issue.

“Dangling bits of red meat no longer satisfies,” she wrote. “They want the whole steak dinner and will accept nothing else.”

The latest criticisms come after Greene hinted at some disagreements with Trump in June by expressing disappointment that the United States got involved in the Israel-Iran war by bombing Iranian nuclear sites.

“I can easily say I support nuclear armed Israel’s right to defend themselves and also say at the same time I don’t want to fight or fund nuclear armed Israel’s wars. Nor any other country for that matter,” she wrote in an X post on June 22. I’m sick of funding foreign aid and foreign countries and foreign everything. I want to fund American interests and issue.”

Greene wrote that “Americans now fear Iranian terrorists attacks on our own soil and being dragged into another war by Netanyahu when we weren’t even thinking about any of this a week ago.” She added that she is praying for “an end to the constant demand for America to go to war,” saying, “Enough is enough.”

Despite her criticism of the United States’ strikes in Iran, Greene clarified at the time that she still supported Trump’s broader agenda.
