NEED TO KNOW

  • Mikey Madison and Kirsten Dunst are set to star in a mermaid thriller titled Reptilia
  • Madison took home a surprising Best Actress win for Anora earlier this year, beating out frontrunner Demi Moore
  • Dunst portrayed a war photojournalist in her last project, Alex Garland’s Civil War

Mikey Madison is ready for her next gig!

The 26-year-old Anora star will appear alongside Kirsten Dunst in Reptilia, a thriller from Alejandro Landes Echavarría, according to Variety and The Hollywood Reporter.

Penned by Landes Echavarría and Duke Merriman, the story follows “a dental hygienist seduced by a mysterious mermaid into the dark and wet underworld of Florida’s exotic animal trade.”

The project for Madison, who also starred in Scream 5 and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, comes on the heels of the actress’ surprising Best Actress win at the Oscars for her role in Anora. Demi Moore had been considered a frontrunner for the category due to her performance in The Substance.

The day after the ceremony, Moore, 62, shared an Instagram video highlighting moments from Sunday’s 97th Academy Awards. The footage included shots of Moore getting ready with her team and dog Pilaf.

“As this awards season comes to a close, I’m so overwhelmed with gratitude for this journey,” she wrote in her caption, shouting out the “cast, crew, and fans” of The Substance, including director Coralie Fargeat and costar Margaret Qualley. “So grateful for my team, my fellow nominees, and everyone who has made this experience so full of joy and light.”

Moore ended her post by honoring the winner: “a huge congratulations to #MikeyMadison — can’t wait to see what you do next ♥️.”

Dunst’s last project was Civil War, an A24 drama from writer-director Alex Garland in which she plays a war photographer.

Speaking with PEOPLE, the Oscar-nominated actress, 43, shared how seriously she took the role.

“I just carried that camera around all the time,” Dunst said in a behind-the-scenes video shared exclusively with PEOPLE.

“As soon as I got the role, I was like, ‘Alex, give me the camera,’ ” Dunst said in the clip, adding that she “was a little bit insecure” about creating an accurate portrayal of her character, a photojournalist named Lee Smith.  “That was my biggest fear, actually, looking like I didn’t know what I was doing with the camera, or holding it in a way that it wasn’t like a part of my body.”
