A Kentucky mother charged in connection with the drowning death of her baby has pleaded guilty.
Amber Winstead, 36, pleaded guilty to manslaughter on Friday, Oct. 31, according court records cited by local news outlets WHAS 11, WLKY, and WDRB.
Authorities said Winstead’s 3-month old baby drowned in a motel bathtub in Louisville on New Year’s Day. She said she took drugs that day and fell asleep while she was in the bathtub with the baby, WDRB reported, citing authorities.
When she was woken up hours later, the baby was submerged in the tub and had drowned, authorities said, WLKY reported.

Winstead’s attorney said his client his client is nearing the end of a drug treatment program and asked the court she be put on house arrest until her sentencing in December, per WLKY.
