My Chemical Romance has MCR5 on the brain!
During the band’s concert at the Alamodome in San Antonio on Saturday, Sept. 12, My Chemical Romance’s lead singer Gerard Way teased the possibility of the band — which also includes Ray Toro, Frank Iero and Mikey Way — getting back into the recording studio, per fan-captured footage and EW.
Way said the band had considered recording more songs after the release of “Foundations of Decay” in May 2022. But two months later, when MCR’s longtime friend and collaborator Doug McKean died, Way said “things changed” for the band.

“You’re like, ‘F—! I’m so excited. We should probably make more songs. ‘Decay’ was really awesome, let’s keep doing it!’” he recalled. “And then stuff happens — life happens — but just know that we’ve kinda always really wanted to make another record, so we hope that life allows us to do that.”
Then, speaking directly to fans in the audience, Way added, “You guys, honestly, you guys kept us alive so long. You guys deserve another record, and we’d love to do that. I don’t know when it’ll be, but it’ll be awesome.”
The potential fifth album from My Chemical Romance would be their first in over 15 years and the band’s first since reuniting in 2019.
Way’s comments come amid the band’s Long Live the Black Parade tour, a celebration of the 20th anniversary of the band’s hit album, The Black Parade.
The tour’s North American leg will conclude with three shows at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on Oct. 21, 23 and 24, per the band’s site. The tour will then make stops in South Korea, Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia before concluding on Nov. 22.

Earlier this week, My Chemical Romance shared on Instagram that it would also commemorate The Black Parade‘s 20th anniversary with a special edition, including new songs and new cover art from James Jean, who designed the original art for the 2006 album.

“At the time, we could never have imagined what the record would mean for the band,” the band wrote in the post’s caption. “All we knew is that we had made something crazy, and something we couldn’t wait to get it out into the world.”
“Our hope is that you enjoy this collection of music and illustrations as much as we do, because we wanted to honor how timeless and enduring you’ve allowed it to be,” the band added.
