Green Bay Packers player Josh Jacobs is facing multiple domestic violence charges after his arrest
The 28-year-old running back was taken into custody on Tuesday, May 26, following an alleged incident on Saturday, May 23, police said
Jacobs “vehemently denies the allegations” against him, his attorneys said in a statement
Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs was arrested in Wisconsin on Tuesday, May 23, following an alleged domestic violence incident on Saturday, May 23.
Jacobs, 28, is facing felony charges of strangulation and suffocation — assault, as well as misdemeanor charges of battery — assault, disorderly conduct, criminal damage to property and intimidation of a victim, per Brown County Jail records seen by PEOPLE on Tuesday. He is being held without bond.
The Hobart-Lawrence Police Department was alerted to a disturbance complaint "involving Jacobs" at 8:37 a.m. local time on Saturday, the police said in a press release shared by NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Police did not share any additional information and noted that the investigation is ongoing.
"Josh vehemently denies the allegations, and this matter is in the early stages of investigation with important evidence that has not yet been made public," the athlete's attorneys said in a statement shared with PEOPLE. "We ask for fairness and restraint while the judicial process takes its course.
PEOPLE reached out to the Hobart-Lawrence Police Department for comment.
The NFL said in a statement that it is "aware of the report" and has "been in contact with the club," per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

The NFL and Packers did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.
Jacobs is entering his third season with the Packers. He was drafted by the Oakland Raiders (now the Las Vegas Raiders) as a first-round draft pick in 2019 and joined the Packers in 2024. Last season, he rushed 929 yards and scored 13 touchdowns. Jacobs played for Alabama in college.
