With inclement weather possibly hitting the East Coast, many Connecticut couples are being forced to alter their wedding plans

One bride moved her ceremony to a firehouse after deciding a tent wouldn’t suffice for the stormy weather
Local venues often book indoor backup plans, allowing couples to adjust their weddings without financial loss
With a potential East Coast storm on the horizon, some couples are adjusting their wedding plans at the last minute.
According to WFSB, a possible storm on the East Coast is forcing some couples getting married in Connecticut to move their nuptials indoors. One bride who was set to marry at Lake Williams on Saturday, Aug. 26 said she is now moving her wedding to the Hall at the Lebanon firehouse.
“I hoped that it wouldn’t rain, but now it just seems more and more likely that there’s going to be this storm,” said bride Shaina Rizzo.

She explained that she did consider renting a tent before making the decision to move the ceremony indoors.
“I thought of the tent idea, but then with the storm, I thought, might as well just go inside,” shared Rizzo.
Although renting a second venue cost Rizzo more money, the bride-to-be said her decor and setup material has already been paid for.
“A lot of the stuff I’ve already picked up, like donations, which will make it a little easier to set it up the day before,” she said. “I was going to do it all the morning of.”
Venues in the area are fully booked for this weekend. Chris Bird, general manager of Saybrook Point Resort & Marina, explained that they always book a backup plan.
“When we book a wedding, we are also booking what we call our ‘rain back up,’” said Bird. He added that couples are able to move a wedding indoors just a few hours before it starts and don’t lose money in that event.
“You really can’t postpone the wedding, so you just have to make alternative plans,” he said.
