  • Amid family scandal, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie did attend the wedding of their cousin Peter Phillips to Harriet Sperling
  • The sisters have kept a low profile in recent months amid renewed interest in their parents’ ties to the late Jeffrey Epstein
  • Princess Eugenie announced last month that she was pregnant with her third child

Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie were among the guests at their cousin Peter Phillips' wedding to Harriet Sperling.

Beatrice, 37, and Eugenie, 36, were in attendance for the June 6 nuptials at All Saints’ Church in Kemble, joining other members of the British royal family, including King Charles and Queen Camilla, Prince William and Kate Middleton, Prince Edward and Sophie, as well as Peter's mother, Princess Anne and her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, and Peter's sister, Zara Tindall, and her husband, Mike Tindall.

The outing marked one of the first major appearances by Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie at a family event since renewed interest in their parents' ties to the late Jeffrey Epstein.

The former Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson were stripped of their royal titles and had to vacate their longtime royal residence last year.

Although Andrew stepped back from his public royal role in 2019 following his headline-making BBC interview in which he discussed his relationship with Epstein, scrutiny intensified after the posthumous memoir of Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre, who died by suicide last year, was published in 2025. In the book, she wrote that Andrew “believed having sex with me was his birthright,” describing three occasions Epstein allegedly arranged for her to meet him beginning at age 17.

Andrew and Ferguson's connections to Epstein were again spotlighted after the Department of Justice released new files in January. The following month, Andrew was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office, with authorities investigating an allegation that he shared confidential information with Epstein while acting as a trade envoy for the U.K.

Andrew has consistently denied any wrongdoing in relation to Epstein.

Andrew and Ferguson, both 66, were not among the invited guests for Peter and Harriet's nuptials, with a friend of the bride and groom saying their presence would be a "distraction."

In the wake of their father's arrest, a source told PEOPLE that Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie were "trying to stay away from it. They have young children, and this is their grandfather — their focus is on protecting their own children from this."

Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie notably spent Christmas with King Charles and the royal family at Sandringham, despite their parents' absence from the holiday gathering.

"They live and die by the monarchy, so this didn't surprise me at all. And Andrew and Sarah would have 1,000% supported it," a friend exclusively told PEOPLE shortly after.

Royal biographer Robert Jobson agreed that it was the right move for Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie to honor King Charles' invitation on Christmas, showing loyalty amid the turmoil.

"They did the right thing – showing loyalty to King Charles and to the crown. It’s easy to say this is a snub, but they would say, 'I’m a royal princess, I’m in line to the throne, I have been invited to attend the King’s Christmas celebrations, and you don’t turn down the King’s invitation,' " he said.

"If you have an invitation, you go. It’s not an invitation – it’s a command, really," he added.

Princess Eugenie announced in May that she was expecting her third child.

"August (aged 5) and Ernest (aged 2) are also very excited to have another sibling join the family," the palace said of the couple's sons, August, 5, and Ernest, 2. "His Majesty The King has been informed and is delighted with the news," the statement continued, referring to Eugenie's uncle.
