Princess Eugenie Attends First Royal Event Since Her Father Andrew Was Stripped of His Titles

NEED TO KNOW

  • Princess Eugenie took part in a mentoring event for The King’s Foundation earlier this week
  • The Foundation is headed by King Charles, who is Eugenie’s uncle
  • Eugenie, 35, is one of those helping inspire and network with a group of under-35s who work in areas like the arts and sustainability

Princess Eugenie has stepped out for her first royal event since her father, the former Prince Andrew, was stripped of his titles and his home.

Earlier this week, the princess, 35, fulfilled a commitment to help mentor some of her peers who are being celebrated by her uncle King Charles and one of his personal charities.

The event also affirmed how Eugenie, like her sister Princess Beatrice has been supported by the royal household and their royal relatives since the controversies over Andrew, and that their positions have not been affected by the fallout. The sisters have kept their titles and the honorific Her Royal Highness.

News of Eugenie’s outing followed an event that her sister Beatrice, 37, held. Joined by her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, Beatrice co-hosted an event at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London for Borne’s World Prematurity Day campaign on Nov. 11. The couple’s 9-month-old daughter Athena was born prematurely at the hospital in January.

Eugenie’s event, details of which were shared on Nov. 13, was part of Charles’ The King’s Foundation’s 35th anniversary year commemorations. The charity has set up a “35 under 35” network who work in areas the foundation values such as nature, sustainability, traditional arts, crafts, textiles, architecture, health, wellbeing and farming.

And Eugenie is one of those helping to facilitate new ideas and inspire them to continue and grow their work.

Eugenie said in a statement, “It was fantastic to spend more time with the 35 under 35, who are such an incredible group of talented young people. I have enjoyed getting to know them better and hearing about their work and aspirations, and look forward to supporting their journeys into the future.”

“My career has been shaped by a passion for the arts, so it’s a pleasure to be working with The King’s Foundation to support this inspirational group of artists and creatives.”

The princess was one of about a dozen mentors — including historian and content creator Alice Loxton — helping the under-35s at Broadwick Soho in London and it was one of a number of events for guiding and networking with the group. Other events have taken place at The King’s Foundation sites at Highgrove Gardens, in the estate of Charles’ beloved country home Highgrove, and at Dumfries House in Scotland. The princess first met the gorup at a welcome party at The King’s Foundation gallery in Chelsea in London in May.

Charles has also hosted a reception for them.

One of the 35 young people, ceramicist Izzy Letty, said in a statement that it was “lovely” to spend time with the princess. “Discussing my evolving creative direction and getting her support on working with galleries will be invaluable to my work and craft. Both The King’s Foundation’s and Her Royal Highness’s passion and support for makers and creativity is inspiring to see.”

“I’ve loved being part of The King’s Foundation’s 35 under 35 network and have met some amazing
and talented people. Visiting The King’s Foundation’s sites has given me a greater understanding of their work and how they champion traditional crafts,” Letty added.
