Pringles Debuts New Cheeseburger and Beer Flavor, and We Tried the Unexpected Combo Before It Hits Stores

The chip brand has teamed up with Miller Lite for a limited run of Pringles x Miller Lite Cheese Burger — which are available for purchase in June

With the grilling season fully underway now that we've entered the summer months, Pringles is hoping consumers will want to combine their barbeques with two savory, beer-themed flavors. 

In May, the chip brand debuted Pringles x Miller Lite Beer Cheese Burger, which, per a press release, "combines the beloved sharp and tangy flavors of beer cheese with the satisfying taste of a juicy burger, expertly finished with the smooth, refreshing flavor of the original light beer." 

The other flavor, Pringles x Miller Lite Beer-Braised Steak, makes its return after an overwhelmingly positive response to its initial debut last year. This one "delivers a char-grilled, tender steak flavor with notes of savory umami and mild black pepper, balanced by the hop-forward, malted character and crisp finish inspired by Miller Lite."

Of course, here at PEOPLE, we had to put these flavors to the test and sample the potato crisps ahead of their debut in stores starting in June. 

After getting our hands on the new Miller Lite Beer Cheese Burger flavor, our taste test yielded mixed results. There's definitely a noticeable beer cheese flavor that tastes like it's been mixed with a heavy splash of a light lager. However, when sampled alongside a cheeseburger, the meaty flavor is more apparent — especially as a complement to the main course. 

Miller Lite Beer-Braised Steak yielded better results, with a stronger, savory flavor more present with each bite. As teased by the brand, it certainly has more of a grilled steak flavor with plenty of umami. Again, there's a splash of lager flavor that will be familiar to beer lovers.  

Given the response to the second flavor, it's clear why it's coming back for another summer. However, we're mixed on the new cheeseburger flavor — unless it's served as a side to a freshly grilled patty (and a Miller Lite).  

These flavors are the first time Pringles experimented with savory inspirations, with the brand teaming up with Wendy's in the past for the Spicy Chicken Sandwich crisps and Baconator crisps, which our colleagues noted at the time "tasted exactly like the burger."
