Savannah Guthrie has a friendly face nearby amid her break from the Today show.
On Thursday, Aug. 6, Hoda Kotb, Guthrie’s friend and former co-anchor, posted a sweet photo of herself and Guthrie, 54, with their arms around one another.
“My favorite place… next to you ❤️ @savannahguthrie,” Kotb, 61, captioned the photo with her friend.
Kotb left the Today show in January 2025 to spend more time with her daughters, Haley, 9, and Hope, 7, and to focus on her wellness app, Joy 101. However, after Savannah stepped away from the Today show following the February abduction of her 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, Kotb temporarily returned to the anchor desk to fill in for Savannah.

She went on to conduct an emotional first interview with Savannah for Today about Nancy’s abduction and the subsequent investigation into her whereabouts. Six months later, no suspects have been named and Savannah has made several public pleas for anyone with information to come forward.
Savannah officially returned to the Today show on April 6 alongside co-anchor Craig Melvin.
“It’s hard to imagine doing it because it’s such a place of joy and lightness and I can’t come back and try to be something that I’m not,” Savannah said of returning to Today. “But I can’t not come back because it’s my family. I think it’s part of my purpose right now. I want to smile. And when I do, it will be real. And my joy will be my protest. My joy will be my answer. And being there is joyful. And when it’s not, I’ll say so.”
In late July, Savannah shared she was taking a few weeks off from Today in order to film the first few episodes of her upcoming Wordle game show.
“We’re going to shoot the whole season and we’re super excited,” she shared at the time, adding that it will likely air in 2027.

While away from the show, Savannah has publicly spoken out, addressing her mother’s abductors with renewed pleas for answers.
“Our family is in agony. We are in a nightmare that will not end. Nothing about our situation has changed,” Savannah shared in an Instagram video. “I’m asking you, begging you to do the right thing now. Make the right choice. Help us find her, tell us where to look for her. I truly believe it is never too late to do the right thing. Help us bring this situation to an end for all of us.”
