Scotty McCreery is going to be a dad again!
The American Idol season 10 winner, 31, is expecting his second baby with wife Gabi Dugal McCreery, announcing the exciting news via Instagram. In the joint post, the couple shared several pictures of themselves with their 2½-year-old son Merrick Avery. While McCreery and Gabi, a registered nurse, simply wore white shirts and blue jeans, the toddler adorned a navy blue sweater with the words “Big Brother” on it.
“A new best friend coming this fall! 💙💙” the couple wrote in the caption.

Ahead of welcoming his first baby, McCreery took fans behind the scenes of his journey to fatherhood in a new music video for his single “It Matters to Her.” The country star and his wife Gabi became parents in October 2022 with the birth of their son, whom they call by his middle name Avery, and in the video — which premiered exclusively on PEOPLE — the couple shared personal photos and videos of their parenthood prep.
“To me, the video shows off how much of a rock star Gabi was during her pregnancy,” McCreery told PEOPLE. “It also captures how much we both enjoyed getting ready for Avery’s arrival.”
The sweet clip began with a digital scrapbook and revealed that Gabi learned she was pregnant in February. As the time went by, viewers saw the couple — who tied the knot in 2018 — getting ultrasounds, assembling various baby toys and setting up their nursery, which McCreery told PEOPLE was Winnie the Pooh-themed.
For their first Christmas as a family of three, McCreery and his wife shared a family holiday card on Instagram. In the sweet picture, the new parents had their son positioned between them. For the family snap, they wore matching brown outfits, with Gabi wearing a chocolate-colored dress and McCreery in a tan-color pullover sweater.
The proud parents coordinated with their Christmas tree, which was filled with matching ornaments. The photo showed the holiday card positioned on top of a red gift bag as their dog, Moose, looked straight at the camera. The family also gave a peek at the back of the card, which showed close-up snaps of baby Avery.

At the end of 2022, the dad reflected on his monumental year in an exclusive conversation with PEOPLE after touching down in Las Vegas for his inaugural show since the birth of his son.
“This is my first trip away from home since he’s been born, so getting to the airport and saying goodbye to him was definitely the toughest. It really hit me this morning,” he shared.
“Honestly, it’s been emotional,” he continued. “The first time was definitely a little sad, but luckily, Avery had his best night of sleep on record so far. He slept for five hours straight, so we actually got a relatively good night’s sleep and that helped Gabi on her first day by herself with the baby, and it helped me as I was going away. I think Avery knew what he was doing!”
