Sean Lowe is opening up about his son Isaiah’s recent Type 1 diabetes diagnosis.
In a video shared to his Instagram on Thursday, July 23, the former Bachelor star, 42, explained he had a “little life update” after his wife, Catherine Giudici Lowe, announced their 8-year-old son had diabetes.
“So that’s been a lot to process,” Lowe began. He recounted Giudici Lowe’s story, sharing that she’d taken the kids to their pediatrician for their annual check-up when the doctor noticed Isaiah had recently lost a lot of weight.

Giudici Lowe mentioned that Isaiah had also been peeing pretty frequently, and the doctor suggested a glucose test. They were then taken to the hospital.
“So we were there Tuesday through Friday and it was a lot,” Lowe said. “It was hard because as far as we knew and Isaiah knew, he was a healthy boy. He didn’t really show any symptoms outside of frequent urination. And the next thing he knows, he’s getting blood tests and shots every two hours, which of course he hates as an 8-year-old.”
“As a parent, it was incredibly difficult to watch him basically scream for help,” he continued. Lowe said his son would say things like “please don’t do it” and “I don’t want it.”

Lowe said he and Giudici Lowe are trying to explain that he has to get the tests, and that it’s “good for you” since it’s medicine. But he explained that Isaiah at his young age doesn’t fully understand that.
He said that his family is “getting through it,” but noted that Isaiah is still struggling to get five shots a day.

“The hardest part, outside of that, is just kind of the acknowledgement that his freedom to snack as he pleases or go to a friend’s house and have lunch, like, he can’t do that anymore,” said Lowe. “We have to stay on top of his carbs and insulin and all that stuff. But what we keep being told over and over again is it will become normal. It’s the new normal, and he’s doing great. Hates the shots, but as soon as he gets the shot, he’s back to his old tricks.”
Giudici Lowe first announced Isaiah had Type 1 diabetesin a post on her Instagram on Tuesday, July 21. At the time, she shared that Isaiah had “endured countless injections” and spent four days away from home in a new lifestyle and routine that feels “very foreign.”
“He’s done all this without losing his playful spirit and a joy that doesn’t make sense,” she said. “A lot of tears, pain and confusion too, but he has been a trooper, no question about it.”
“Isaiah is my new hero and I am so proud to be his mama. Prayers for him, his siblings and his parents are welcomed as we navigate this new normal. ❤️.”
Alongside Isaiah, Giudici Lowe and Lowe are parents to son Samuel, 10, and daughter Mia, 6.
