Vince Offer may be best known as the “ShamWow Guy,” but his career has made a major pivot since his infomercials first went viral in the early 2000s.

The salesman originally became famous thanks to his energetic televised product pitches for a string of household gadgets that included the ShamWow, the Slap Chop and the Schticky. Not only was he the face of those best-selling products, but he was also the brains behind their production.

But in 2009, he made headlines following a violent encounter with a sex worker. While Offer was arrested for alleged aggravated battery, prosecutors declined to pursue charges.

For Offer, it was a wake-up call. “It probably saved my life,” he told NBC News following the incident.

Offer went on to release several more products, and in 2025, he announced his run for a congressional seat in Texas.

Who is Vince Offer?

Offer was born Offer Shlomi in Israel but moved to the United States as a child, per NBC News. He was raised by a single mother in Brooklyn, N.Y., and after dropping out of high school at 17, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue his aspirations in the entertainment industry.

By the 1980s, he was appearing on public access television, but in order to pay the bills, he began working as a salesman going door-to-door selling solar paneling, he later told The Fallen State web series. He later moved on to local flea markets and swap meets where he began selling early versions of the Slap Chop, a manual food chopping gadget, and the ShamWow, a super-absorbent cleaning cloth, per NBC News.

Meanwhile, he continued to chase his dreams as an actor and, in 1996, he directed and starred in The Underground Comedy Movie, a film based on skits from his days on public television. Eventually, he saved enough money from his flea market sales to create an infomercial for the film, which aired between 2 a.m. to 4 a.m. on Comedy Central.

“I was watching television and I saw those Girls Gone Wild spots and thought maybe that would be a good way to sell the movie. That’s really how it started. I put the trailer on an infomercial on Comedy Central and we sold 50,000 DVDs that way and eventually sold 50,000 more of them in stores,” he recalled in a January 2009 CNBC interview.

Realizing the potential of TV marketing, Offer began working on a pitch to sell the ShamWow. Having seen similar cleaning products at markets, he reached out to a factory in Germany to produce them, he told CNBC.

When the infomercial first aired in 2007, it immediately became a hit. Offer told NBC News that his secret was to be “very vanilla, with a touch of inappropriate.”

Following his viral success, Offer founded Square One TV Marketing, a television and multimedia company that operates the end-to-end functions of telemarketing, from product discovery to working with suppliers and distributors, all the way to the creation of infomercials.

Why was Vince Offer arrested in 2009?

As Offer was at the height of infomercial stardom in 2009, he was arrested on suspicion of aggravated battery, per NBC News. Looking back on the incident, Offer explained that he was in the midst of a 12-hour drinking binge in Miami when he met up with sex worker Sasha Harris.

According to police reports obtained by NBC News, during their encounter in Offer’s hotel room, Harris bit Offer’s tongue and wouldn’t let go. In response, Offer struck Harris with his fist until she let go.

Both Offer and Harris were arrested for alleged aggravated battery, but prosecutors declined to press charges.

“I have to take full responsibility,” Offer told NBC News following the incident. “People understand you make mistakes in life. Hopefully I won’t make another mistake.”

Where is Vince Offer now?

Following the aggravated battery incident, Offer faced more legal trouble when he was sued by his former personal assistant, Jennifer Kosinski.

In 2011, Kosinski, who was 23 at the time, accused Offer of stalking and emotionally abusing her. She also alleged that he forced her to be at his constant “beck and call,” made sexual advances and offered to buy her eggs, according to reports cited by CBS News.

Kosinski alleged that she was fired when she refused to show Offer her personal text messages. The result of the lawsuit is unclear.

Despite the controversy, Offer continued his work in the infomercial space. He poked fun at his arrest in a 2012 campaign for his new product, the Schticky, per AdWeek.

In addition to the reusable lint roller, Offer also went on to introduce a liquid cleaner called InVinceable and the Crank Chop, a product that slices and dices food with the pull of a nylon cord.

His second film, InAPPropriate Comedy, was released in 2013 and featured appearances from Rob Schneider, Michelle Rodriguez, Adrien Brody and Lindsay Lohan. Beyond the film, Offer has continued sharing sketch videos on social media.

In 2025, Offer pivoted his career towards politics and announced plans to enter the Republican primary for Texas’ 31st Congressional District. The decision was influenced by ongoing cultural tensions, telling Fox News he was motivated by a desire to “destroy wokeism” and as a tribute to the late Charlie Kirk.

In March 2026, Offer lost the primary, netting only 4.2% of the vote. Shortly after, he declared his plans to sue the Republican Party of Texas for removing “ShamWow” from his name on the ballot.

“Suing the GOP Texas for deleting my nickname ‘Shamwow’ in the Primaries so they help the incumbent John Carter so the voters don’t recognize me,” he wrote in a post on X. “Rigged election by these rhinos [sic].”

While Offer does not often share details about his personal life, he was previously married to Melody Barney. The couple met through a mutual friend at the Chateau Marmont in 2012 and went on to tie the knot on April 18, 2014.

They welcomed a daughter together before filing for divorce in 2018, citing irreconcilable differences.
