Sister Removes Brother’s Girlfriend From Family Location-Sharing App Over Privacy Imbalance

A 24-year-old woman turns to Reddit for advice after removing her brother’s girlfriend from their family’s Life360 account — a group location-sharing app.

The woman begins by introducing her younger brother Matt, 21, and his girlfriend Selena, also 21. The couple has been together since 2021 and has two children together. Initially, the woman tried to maintain a friendly relationship with Selena.

“I have tried to be cordial and friendly towards Selena, I have heard many times of how people don’t get along with their sibling’s partner and I didn’t want to be one of those people,” the woman writes in her post.

However, over time, OP became increasingly uncomfortable with Selena’s behavior. She recounts, “Throughout the years, though, I have heard countless gossip from Selena about what she thinks about people in my family, including my mother.”

The poster admits to initially defending Selena against her mother and sister, a decision she now regrets.

The family dynamics became more complicated when Matt started operating a food truck loaned by his parents. The woman and her mother often work alongside Matt, sometimes without pay during slow weeks.

This arrangement has led to tension, with the woman feeling that “Selena sees herself as a boss and sees my mother and I as only employees.”

The situation is further strained by limited access to Matt and Selena’s children. “There are times when my mom asks my brother if she can spend time with her grandkids, but he says no because they are with her family,” she writes.

This has been a source of frustration for the woman’s mother, who desires more time with her grandchildren. When there was only one kid, the family set up a Life360 account which included Matt, the poster, their mother, and their sister.

Recently, the poster noticed that Selena had paused her location sharing since January 28th. Despite this, Selena continued to monitor the locations of other family members, which the woman found unfair.

The final straw came when the poster’s mother shared her frustration about wanting to see her grandchildren and how Selena had ghosted her on an invitation for a Saturday morning outing. In response, the poster decided to remove Selena from the Life360 account.

Now the poster seeks validation for her actions as she feels there’s an imbalance in privacy and respect within the family. Redditors have suggested she speak with Selena. “Your SIL isn’t playing fair with the grandkids, but this is one of those problems you have to discuss if you want to see change,” one user writes.

Another shares, “I’d talk to your brother about it. Create a set of ‘family rules’ for the 360 and one of them is you either all share or you’re out. That’s kind of the point of it. Otherwise it’s not fair. He can’t possibly argue with that. Ask her how she’d like it if roles were reversed.”
