  • The actress, 32, exclusively tells PEOPLE what it was like teaming up with Diane Warren again for the project
  • Carson previously appeared on the hit Disney Channel franchise Descendants, which recently celebrated its 10th anniversary

Sofia Carson is returning to her Disney roots.

More than four years after saying goodbye to her iconic Descendants role as Evie with the 2021 TV special Descendants: Royal Wedding, the actress, 32, is making a heartwarming appearance on the Disney Channel yet again with a cameo on Electric Bloom.

The series, which first premiered on Disney Channel in July, follows three members of a now mega-famous pop group as they look back on their band’s origin story and friendship.

Starring Lumi Pollack, Carmen Sanchez and Ruby Marino, the series was created by Eric Friedman, Alex Fox and Rachel Lewis, who also serve as executive producers along with songwriter Diane Warren and Bahareh Batmang. Warren also writes the majority of the songs for the series, including the theme song.

In the season 1 finale, Carson makes a meta appearance as herself as she serves as a “source of inspiration and aspiration for the girls of Electric Bloom,” per an official release from Disney.

In an exclusive statement to PEOPLE about her upcoming cameo, Carson gushes about getting to team up with Warren again after working together on the Grammy-nominated song “Applause” from Tell It Like a Woman, which Warren wrote and Carson performed.

“Creating with Diane Warren will always be my prized honor,” Carson says. “It fills my heart with happiness to have been chosen by her to be a part of the electric journey of three young women who are fearlessly chasing their dreams in Electric Bloom. To remind them that remaining true to their hearts is their greatest superpower… the very example that Diane has so beautifully and historically set for the women of the world.”

Speaking exclusively with PEOPLE in June ahead of the 10th anniversary of Descendants, Carson reflected on how the hit Disney Channel franchise impacted her at the time of its release.

“Evie changed my life forever,” she told PEOPLE. “She was my dream come true, and she continues to make my dream come true every single day because even though it’s been 10 years, this younger generation of kids are rediscovering Descendants. It’s such a privilege and a joy.”

The following month, she also shared with PEOPLE how the cast and crew became a big family as they filmed the movies, including director Kenny Ortega, Dove Cameron, Booboo Stewart and the late Cameron Boyce.

“10 years ago, I stepped foot onto my very first movie set… Into a world of wonder, of magic, of music, of friendship, of love,” she recalled to PEOPLE. “Guided by our dearest Kenny, four hearts held hands and began a journey that would change the rest of our lives, as we brought to life a story that, little did we know, would go down in the heart of history.”

She also reflected on the starpower Boyce, who died at age 20 in July 2019 due to a seizure just before the release of the third film.

“I will forever thank the heavens above for the gift of you,” she said, addressing Boyce directly. “My little brother. Your light shines, to infinity and beyond… “
