  • The recall was linked to a seasoning ingredient containing dry milk powder previously recalled by California Dairies, Inc.
  • No illnesses have been reported, but consumers are being urged not to eat the affected products

Target shoppers are being urged to check their pantries after a popular Good & Gather trail mix product was recalled over potential Salmonella contamination.

The company is voluntarily recalling several snack mix products, including Good & Gather Mexican Street Corn Trail Mix sold at Target stores nationwide, according to a recall announcement issued by John B. Sanfilippo & Son, Inc. and published by the FDA on Wednesday, May 6.

The affected Good & Gather product is the 8-ounce Mexican Street Corn Trail Mix with lot number 6082GY5D and a “Best By” date of March 23, 2027.

The company said the recall was initiated following a separate voluntary recall by California Dairies, Inc. involving dry milk powder that may have been contaminated with Salmonella. According to the announcement, the recalled snack mixes were flavored with a seasoning supplied by a third party that contained the recalled dry milk powder.

John B. Sanfilippo & Son stated that the seasoning tested negative for the bacteria before being used in production, but the company decided to issue the recall “as a precautionary measure.”

In addition to the Good & Gather trail mix sold at Target, the recall also affects several Fisher, Southern Style Nuts and Squirrel Brand snack mix products distributed through retail stores, e-commerce outlets and QVC.

The company said no illnesses connected to the recalled products have been reported so far.

Consumers who purchased the affected items are being advised not to eat them and instead return them to the point of purchase for a refund or replacement.

According to the FDA, Salmonella bacteria can cause serious and potentially fatal infections, particularly in young children, older adults and people with weakened immune systems. Symptoms in otherwise healthy people can include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In more severe cases, the infection can spread to the bloodstream and lead to more serious complications.
