The world is ready for another whirlwind trip on The Amazing Race.
The CBS reality competition series returns for season 39 with a two-night premiere on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1. Longtime host Phil Keoghan leads the latest installment in which a new slate of two-person teams journey around the world with the goal of winning a $1 million prize.
Season 39 introduces a brand-new twist for competitors: 13 express passes are in play, meaning every team gets one without having to do anything to earn it.
“What this does is leave [teams] with this decision. Do we use it right out of the gate to ensure that we get at least out of the gate, or do we try to hold on to it, confident that we can survive the early legs, and then we have this thing to play when we might get into trouble?” Keoghan told TV Line in September. “Strategizing starts right at the beginning of the race.”

When does The Amazing Race season 39 premiere?

Season 39 of The Amazing Race kicks off with a two-night premiere on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.
In part one, titled “Sorry Guys, We Used Our Express Pass,” competitors start their journey off in Vancouver, Canada, where they learn each team has been granted an express pass, per CBS. The catch is they have to use it by the end of leg six.
Then in part two, titled “Are Tomatoes Good for Skin Care?” the racers head to Madrid, Spain, “where a new alliance emerges, and one team’s Express Pass strategy comes with instant regret,” according to the CBS episode synopsis.
How many episodes are in The Amazing Race season 39?
CBS has not announced how many episodes are in season 39 of The Amazing Race. However, TV Guide lists season 39 as encompassing a total of 12 episodes.
Previously, season 38 and season 37 included 12 episodes.
Among the season 39 cast, there are “some really strong women,” Keoghan told TV Line, adding that the group includes a pair of professional soccer players and an Olympian as part of a mother-daughter duo.
Keoghan also mentioned a couple, Javi and Erin, who are competing this season. “Erin is really wanting Javi to show her that he can step up and take control,” he told the outlet. “It’s interesting that some people want to come on The Amazing Race and prove or change their relationship.”
He continued, “I don’t think I would ever choose The Amazing Race as a place to test a relationship or to change a relationship because of the strain of it, but hey.”
What is the The Amazing Race season 39 release schedule?

Following the two-night premiere starting on Sept. 30, new episodes of The Amazing Race continue to air weekly on Wednesdays on CBS and Paramount+, according to the network.
After the premiere week, The Amazing Race will return to its regular time slot on Oct. 7.
