A former TV presenter has revealed her horrific head injury, which she likened to a “crime scene”, and now needs plastic surgery.

Carrie Bickmore, an Australian radio host and media personality, revealed that she had “blood spurting from my head” after accidentally walking into the corner of a wall.

The 45-year-old shared four images detailing her wound on Instagram on Monday, April 20, with the first slide showing the deep, open cut on the left side of her head, along with selfies of her wearing several bandages.

“Walked into the corner of the wall over the break,” Bickmore captioned the image. “Looked like a crime scene. Blood spurting from my head.”

The former Project host said she got the cut glued back together so she could go on vacation to Sri Lanka with her family, but later found out that she had hit a nerve.

Bickmore added: “Healing terribly. And hurting. Also randomly had a lady drop her carry on suitcase on my head. 🤣God it hurt, Now gotta have it fixed properly by a plastics surgeon.”

She joked: “Scars are hot yeh? Face for radio (except tonight when I am back on TV for Celebrity intervention on Channel 7)!”

The Mayo Clinic said that adults who have "serious head and facial bleeding" should seek immediate medical attention. It also states that those administering first aid should keep the injured person still, stop any bleeding by applying pressure to the wound, and watch for any changes in breathing.

In the post, Bickmore also shared a holiday picture of her in a strappy red dress on the beach, sporting sunglasses and flip-flops, along with a medical dressing on the side of her head.

On her radio show, Carrie & Tommy, she explained in more detail that the accident happened the day before she was due to fly to South Asia.

She woke up in the middle of the night to get some water when she “misjudged” the corner of the wall in her house and hit her head.

“I walked into it with such force that as I fell, I collected a lamp with me that was on the bedside table,” Bickmore said.

Speaking about the blood rushing out of her head, she said: “I felt it spurting out, I was catching it with my hand and it dripped all down my eye.”

Paramedics bandaged her head up, advising the radio host to go and get her head glued in the morning.

Bickmore said: “Either it popped open during my trip, because I couldn't then wash my hair for 10 days, swim, go in the water, or anything.”

After seeing a plastic surgeon, she was told that they needed to get the glue out of her wound and sew together the nerve and all the different layers of skin.

Bickmore said: “It was so deep that the glue has done absolutely nothing.”

She has received much support on social media, with her 793,000 followers rushing to wish her a speedy recovery in the comments of her Instagram upload, with one writing: “Rest up and heal well. That's a lot.”

Another said: “Brutal! Good work soldiering on! 🤜🤛,” a third added: “Ouch. Hope your head feels better soon, Carrie. 🙏💕.”
