An Australian TV news reporter has revealed how she was laid off from her job while on maternity leave.
On Friday, June 12, Bethan Yeoman announced in an Instagram post that she had been laid off from her role at 7NEWS Melbourne while caring for her newborn son, Archie.
“Being made redundant (laid off) on mat leave was not on my 2026 bingo card,” Yeoman wrote alongside a photo of herself kissing Archie with the text “I have some news” written across it.
“All the greatest things that have happened in my career have come after setbacks — so I know the best is yet to come,” Yeoman added in a more positive note.

“It's the people who make this job so special… and I'm just so grateful for all the amazing journos and cameramen I've worked so closely with over the years,” she continued. “Looking forward to new opportunities, but for now I'm enjoying the greatest role there is — being a mom x.”
Yeoman's carousel shared several moments from her time at work. In the photos, the journalist could be seen reporting from a variety of different outdoor locations alongside her news team colleagues.

One photo showed her cradling her baby bump beside two other pregnant women in the news studio, while the final image showed Yeoman and several other women carrying their babies on set.
Channel 7 news reporter Inga Neilsen also shared an Instagram post about being laid off from the network on Thursday, June 11.
“After more than six years telling other people's stories, it's time to share some news of my own. Last week, I accepted a redundancy from 7NEWS,” she wrote in her caption.

“For now, it's time to put down the microphone and try something new, focused on creating, connecting, and putting more positivity into the world. Above all, I know Mom would be proud. ❤️ xx,” Neilsen added.
Up to 300 full-time employees have been laid off at Seven Network's owner Southern Cross Media Group, per a June 11 release obtained by PEOPLE.
Southern Cross Austereo, which Southern Cross Media Group operates under, said in the statement that the staff members would be “leaving the group before June 30.”
