  • Kim Plath shared a regret about how she and ex-husband Barry parented their kids in the April 21 episode of Welcome to Plathville
  • She speculated that teaching them to wait for marriage to have sex has negatively impacted their romantic relationships as adults
  • She also explained that many of her kids, including son Isaac Plath, have had “bad relationships” because they moved too fast

Kim Plath is reflecting on what she wishes she could have done differently as a mom of nine.

In the April 21 episode of Welcome to Plathville, the family matriarch, 53, went for a walk with son Isaac Plath, 20, to discuss his sudden split from his girlfriend Kaylynn Brinkley. Explaining he worried things were moving too fast, Isaac admitted he ultimately regretted his decision.

“There were things personally, on my end, that I was thinking, that I was in my head about,” he said. “I know that she is older than me by two-and-a-half years or so, so I know that she wants to get married a little sooner than I was thinking.”

When Kim interjected to ask if Kaylynn had put any pressure on him to rush into marriage, however, Isaac said, “All the pressure I was getting was basically in my head.”

“I just didn't think about the thought of, maybe she is the one,” he continued. “Maybe this is where I'm supposed to be. I let everything else kind of drown that out.”

Isaac went on to express fear that Kaylynn, who previously shared that she was caught off guard by the breakup, won’t be willing to rekindle the relationship.

“There's a lot of things I need to think about,” he noted.

In her confessional, Kim revealed that she attributes the way she and her ex-husband Barry raised their children partly to dating as adults.

“A lot of my older kids, they've had kind of bad relationships,” she explained. “Looking back, the thing that I would change with how we raise the kids is — I have a hard time promoting sex before marriage, I do feel like there's a lot of benefit to waiting — but now, I think it's better to have sex before marriage and really get to know who you're marrying than to just rush in and get married so that you can have sex.”

“Isaac and Kaylynn have spent a long time getting to know each other, but the bottom line is, they still have to figure out some of those things for themselves,” she added. “And it's hard. They have to figure out to get to know somebody and not move too fast.”

On their walk, Isaac told Kim that he “was wrong” to project his worries onto Kaylynn, and Kim offered some words of advice.

“Sometimes you have to see that for yourself to know, because if you keep thinking, ‘Well, the grass is greener on the other side,’ then you don't appreciate what you have,” she said. “But then when you experience it, you see grass really isn't greener on the other side, and nobody can really tell you that.”

Isaac agreed but confessed, “I really don't know if I will get her back. That really scares me.”
