NEED TO KNOW

  • Sullivan’s Crossing season 4 finale premiered in May 2026 in the U.S.
  • The show’s latest episodes focused on Maggie and Cal’s evolving dynamic, including two potential relationship milestones
  • Netflix added Sullivan’s Crossing season 4 to its library in June 2026

The season 4 finale of Sullivan’s Crossing ended with more than one surprise.

Based on Robyn Carr's best-selling book series, the hit show follows Maggie Sullivan (Morgan Kohan), a Boston neurosurgeon who returns to her hometown of Sullivan’s Crossing in Nova Scotia after legal troubles upend her career. There, she reunites with her estranged father, Harry “Sully” Sullivan (Scott Patterson), and falls in love with Cal Jones (Chad Michael Murray), the campground handyman.

Season 4 marked a major turning point for the series following Patterson's departure ahead of the season due to what he called "untenable" creative differences. Even without its longtime patriarch, the drama continued to raise the stakes.

After Maggie and Cal weathered the return of her ex-husband, Liam Davies (Marcus Rosner), Cal took a major step in their relationship. However, the finale ended with a surprise visitor on his doorstep who could drastically reshape the couple's future.

Here's everything to know about Sullivan’s Crossing season 4 finale.

In the final moments of the season 4 finale, Sullivan's Crossing social worker Jeanie Blassette (Trina Corkum) arrives unexpectedly at Cal's doorstep.

She explains that Tracy Nelson's (Emerson MacNeil) foster parents are no longer able to care for her. Before she can say more, Tracy walks through the front door carrying her suitcase after ignoring Jeanie's request to wait in the car.

"So, which one's my room?" she asks Cal.

The surprise arrival leaves Maggie and Cal stunned, ending the season on a cliffhanger that raises new questions about the couple's future — including whether they're ready to take on the responsibility of caring for a child together.

What did Maggie lie about?

Earlier in season 4, Ben (Colby Frost) learns that his younger sister, Tracy, could be placed in foster care after she is hospitalized with leptospirosis, a bacterial infection that can be spread through exposure to rodent urine.

Desperate to keep them together, Ben takes Tracy out of the hospital without authorization in hopes of finding their mother. His actions led to his arrest on kidnapping and child endangerment charges.

In the finale, Cal receives a call from Ben's attorney, informing him that a doctor has come forward and is willing to testify that Ben had permission to take Tracy out of the hospital. That doctor is revealed to be Maggie.

Cal confronts Maggie, warning that lying on Ben's behalf could cost her both her medical license and her career. Maggie insists the risk is worth it if it means the siblings will continue to be by each other's sides.

"This is about something bigger than me, Cal, or my career. This is about keeping Ben and Tracy together. This is about love," she tells him. "I know how much it hurts to be separated from your family."

Later, Ben calls Cal to say he plans to plead guilty rather than let Maggie take the fall for his actions.

After working through the Ben situation, Maggie tells Cal she wants to repair their relationship after the two briefly split over her lingering feelings for Liam.

The couple reconciles, and later that evening, Cal gets down on one knee and proposes. "Are you sure?" Maggie asks.

Before she can answer, however, Jeanie knocks on the door with Tracy hot on her heels, leaving Maggie's response — and the couple's potential next chapter — hanging in the balance.

Sullivan's Crossing was renewed for a fifth season in June 2026, with production set to begin in the coming months.

Ahead of the new installment, Kohan shared what she hopes is next for Maggie.

"It would be nice too to see her and Cal really sort through stuff rather than just glossing over it — and setting up how they want their life to look like, how they communicate and all that," she told Swooon.

The actress continued, "And then, of course, what her career is going to look like now that Dr. Carlson’s offered her a [job], but is she going to want to do her own thing?"
