Patrick Clancy was married to Lindsay Clancy when she killed their three young children.
The former couple met in 2013 in Boston and got married three years later, per a profile in The New Yorker. Patrick and Lindsay went on to welcome three children: daughter Cora, 5, and sons Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months. The birth of their third child took a significant toll on Lindsay, and she allegedly began developing symptoms of postpartum psychosis, but was never diagnosed.
As a result of her postpartum struggles, Lindsay sought the help of several doctors, admitted herself to an inpatient program and was prescribed several antipsychotic and antidepressant medications. By mid-January 2023, Lindsay appeared to be doing better.
However, on Jan. 24, Lindsay sent Patrick out of the house. When he returned, Patrick found Lindsay on their lawn where she told him she had tried to die by suicide. Patrick ran inside the house and found all three of his kids seemingly strangled.
Lindsay, who was paralyzed from the fall, was arrested and charged in connection with the murders. She is standing trial for her children’s deaths in court proceedings that began on July 20. Patrick, who publicly forgave Lindsay and later divorced her, testified during the trial and spoke about his ex-wife’s mental health.

Patrick met Lindsay in 2013 and they welcomed three children after their 2016 wedding

Patrick grew up in Massachusetts in a large Catholic family, as he told The New Yorker.
“Pat doesn’t like to be angry,” Sue Clancy, his mother, told the outlet. “He doesn’t like hostility. He’s always been that type, since he was very little, to just give the benefit of the doubt.”
Patrick went on to attend a Jesuit boys’ school before graduating from Salve Regina University, in Newport, R.I., with a degree in business. After graduating, he moved to Boston and started working at a telecommunications company.
While working there in the summer of 2013, he met Lindsay, who was attending nursing school at MGH Institute of Health Professionals and living with one of his cousins. Patrick later took Lindsay on a date to fly kites, and he introduced her to his family shortly after. They married three years later in December 2016.
Lindsay and Patrick welcomed their first child, daughter Cora, in December 2017, and sons Dawson a year-and-a-half later and Callan in May 2022.
The family of five resided in Duxbury, Mass. Prior to the murders, Patrick worked at Microsoft, while Lindsay was a labor and delivery nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital.
In January 2023, Patrick discovered his wife injured and his three children deceased

Leading up to his children’s deaths, Patrick helped his wife seek mental health treatment for the various postpartum symptoms she was experiencing, which included a stay in inpatient mental healthcare.
On Jan. 24, 2023, Patrick left Lindsay home alone with the kids after he believed she was doing better. In the evening, he went to get takeout for dinner and medication for Cora.
Upon arriving home, Patrick noticed that the primary door was locked and immediately suspected something was wrong. He broke in and found a knife and blood on the floor.
According to his account, Patrick found Lindsay outside with injuries to her wrists and neck. She told him she “tried to kill myself” and said that the kids were in the basement. He called 911 and ran to the basement where he found his children with exercise bands wrapped around their necks.
Lindsay was arrested and charged with three counts of murder in her children’s deaths. She has pleaded not guilty.
Patrick said he forgave Lindsay and asked others to do the same

Just a few days after Patrick found his three children deceased and his wife was arrested on murder charges, he expressed his public forgiveness of Lindsay and asked other people to follow in his footsteps.
One of Patrick’s friends launched a GoFundMe page to help with medical, funeral and legal costs, and Patrick posted on the page to describe his “excruciating and relentless pain” while encouraging people to remember “the real Lindsay.”
“I want to ask all of you that you find it deep within yourselves to forgive Lindsay, as I have,” he wrote. “The real Lindsay was generously loving and caring towards everyone – me, our kids, family, friends, and her patients. The very fibers of her soul are loving. All I wish for her now is that she can somehow find peace.”
He continued, “I promise I’ll put all my energy into healing and rediscovering my purpose. I owe that to all of you, Duxbury fire and police, our compassionate healthcare workers, our local faith leaders, the Microsoft community, and especially Cora, Dawson, and Callan. I don’t know how or when I’ll be able to do it, but your love and generosity will help me get started. I know that love always wins.”
Patrick added that he was “constantly reminded” of his three children and would continue doing his “best to carry on in your honor.”
Although he forgave his former partner, Patrick later clarified to The New Yorker that he didn’t contact her after the crime.
“I wasn’t married to a monster—I was married to someone who got sick,” Patrick said.
Patrick lives in New York with his second wife
In the three years since Patrick’s children were killed, he divorced Lindsay and remarried.
Lindsay’s defense attorney, Kevin Reddington, disclosed the personal update after the opening statements in her murder trial on July 23. PEOPLE later confirmed that Patrick lives with his second wife, a reproductive endocrinologist and infertility specialist, in New York.
“Patrick Clancy has suffered one of the worst tragedies that anyone could ever suffer. How that guy is not an emotional basketcase is beyond me, and he is trying hard to move on with his life. As the court is aware, they’re divorced, he’s remarried, he has a family,” Reddington said in court.

Lindsay’s murder trial started on July 20 with jury selection before opening statements and testimonies began the following week on July 27.
Of the more than 200 potential witnesses filed by the prosecution and defense teams, Patrick will be the key witness to testify. While prosecutors are planning to argue that Lindsay showed “deliberate premeditation,” her defense attorney has argued that she should not be “criminally responsible” for the children’s deaths because of her mental health, per CNN.
Patrick’s testimony began on July 27. He reiterated that Lindsay struggled with her mental health after she became a mother.
“She just had a really hard time being separated from them,” he testified, per NBC Boston.
Patrick added that Lindsay “was in rough shape” at Thanksgiving 2022 and was “really depressed.” He said that her “big spiral” began after she was prescribed the drug Seroquel and “started to say she was suicidal.” Patrick further recalled the two discussing her “intrusive thoughts” about hurting herself and their kids.
“She described thoughts of hurting the kids or them having some sort of ailment,” he said, while later adding, “It was very confusing because a minute later, she was making them lunch or playing with them or getting ready for bed or whatever it was.”
Patrick is suing Lindsay’s healthcare providers
In early 2026, Lindsay and Patrick filed a wrongful death lawsuit against some of her medical providers for what they allege was improper treatment.
“Lindsay Clancy did everything a mother in her situation could do. She recognized something was wrong with her. She sought medical treatment. She went to emergency rooms. She called crisis hotlines,” the complaint read. She admitted herself to hospitals. She took the medication prescribed to her. She communicated her worsening symptoms to her providers. She told them the medications were making her worse.”
In his lawsuit, a copy of which was obtained by PEOPLE, Patrick claimed that Lindsay had been prescribed nine medications in a short timeframe and was encouraged to harm her children and herself due to “a compelling and unrecognizable singular male voice that told her ‘this is your last chance’ and that she had to ‘take them’ with [her].”
