Varya Malina’s life has looked very different since her 90 Day Fiancé, Geoffrey Paschel, was convicted of assault.

She first appeared on 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days in 2020, which followed Paschel traveling from Tennessee to Russia to meet her in person. The two later shared that they were engaged, and Malina eventually moved to Tennessee as they continued their relationship off‑camera.

Malina and Paschel's story took a sharp turn in 2022, though, when he was convicted of assaulting his former fiancée, Kristen Wilson, and sentenced to 18 years in prison without parole. His case is now being featured in season 2 of Netflix’s Worst Ex Ever, which premiered on May 6.

According to the doc, Paschel began pursuing a relationship with Malina online while he was still engaged to Wilson. Since his sentencing, Malina has remained active on social media, sharing statements about continuing to stand by her partner.

“As many of you know, my man is currently serving time in prison,” she said in a 2023 Instagram post. “Instead of letting this situation hold me back, I’ve chosen to take a different path. I’ve decided to travel more, explore new horizons, and let the world be my guide.”

Who is Varya Malina?

Before reality TV, Malina was living in Russia, where she worked as a radio personality and a wedding planner.

She later joined season 4 of 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days, which followed her relationship with Tennessee native Paschel as they tried to make their long‑distance romance more serious.

Malina and Paschel's engagement unfolded on the show, and in December 2020, she left Russia and moved to the United States to unite with him.

What led to Geoffrey Paschel’s conviction?

Paschel was found guilty of several charges after a two‑day trial in October 2021, including aggravated kidnapping, domestic assault and interfering with emergency calls, according to a statement by the Knox County District Attorney’s Office. Malina supported Paschel throughout the trial.

Prosecutors said the case began in June 2019, when deputies were called to Paschel’s home for a domestic disturbance. His then‑fiancée, Wilson, told officers that he attacked her during an argument.

According to the D.A.’s office, she said he grabbed her by the neck, slammed her head against a wall multiple times and dragged her after throwing her to the floor. Wilson also reported that Paschel took her phone and kept her from leaving. She was eventually able to get away and run to a neighbor’s house once he fell asleep.

When officers arrived, they noted she had a large bruise on her forehead, cuts and bruises on her arms and back and an injury inside her lip. Wilson was later diagnosed with a concussion. Years later, Paschel claimed during the trial that her injuries were self‑inflicted.

Because of his prior criminal record, the aggravated kidnapping charge — a Class B felony — carried a sentence of 12 to 20 years without the possibility of parole. Paschel's past convictions include possession with intent to sell a controlled substance and two federal drug‑trafficking charges.

Is Varya Malina still in a relationship with Geoffrey Paschel?

Despite Paschel being behind bars, Malina is still in a relationship with him, per her Instagram and YouTube accounts.

In September 2025, she shared an old photo of the two of them to wish him a happy birthday. Malina also addressed rumors about their status in a 2023 post.

“It’s been a rumor going around that I broke up with Geoffrey and went to Puerto Rico to celebrate my single life,” Malina noted. “It is obviously a product of somebody’s sick imagination. Geoffrey and I are the closest of people and the most important emotional support for each other. You’ll see us reunited soon.”

She added that being apart doesn’t mean she’s putting her own life on hold, saying, “I’m not locked in 4 walls. I have my own dreams to chase and my own goals to achieve.”

Where is Varya Malina now?

After Paschel went to prison, Malina stayed in the United States and took on several jobs to support herself, including part‑time babysitting.

During a February 2023 Instagram Q&A, a follower asked how she covers her expenses while living in the U.S. without Paschel. She said her income comes from Instagram, savings from selling her apartment in Russia and property‑management work.

In 2021, Malina became a U.S. permanent resident. According to Worst Ex Ever, she lives in Paschel's Tennessee home, cares for his dogs and looks after his rental properties.

In a March 2025 YouTube video, Malina said she visits Paschel in prison frequently and they like to “make plans” for the future. “I'm pretty sure these plans will come true sooner than you think they will,” she said.

Malina has also organized women‑only adventure trips to Utah, Arizona, Costa Rica and Turkey.
