Will Smith is back on set.

The Oscar winner, 57, was photographed filming Supermax at the Western Sydney Hotel in Sydney, Australia, on Wednesday, Aug. 26. As Smith walked the outdoor hallways, he was wearing a metallic copper tracksuit, a white T-shirt and a pair of Nike Jordans.

Smith’s company, Westbrook, announced the film on Instagram in May, saying it is working with Amazon MGM Studios, Miramax and director David Gordon Green (The Exorcist: Believer, Halloween) on the project. David Weil and David J. Rosen wrote the film, and both serve as executive producers alongside Smith and Adam Fishbach.

The upcoming thriller is described as “a propulsive and twist-laden” story following two FBI agents investigating a murder in the world’s most secure prison. Smith stars as the lead character, Rex. He is joined by AnnaSophia Robb and Jaafar Jackson.

Robb, 32, is portraying the FBI agent who works with Smith’s character Rex. She confirmed news of her casting on July 21 when she shared an article to her Instagram and added the caption, “Extremely grateful. Extremely pumped. Extremely ready to kick some a$$.”

Supermax marks the first movie Smith has filmed since working on the fourth Bad Boys movie, Bad Boys: Ride or Die, which costarred longtime friend Martin Lawrence.

The comedy film premiered in May 2024 and made $193.5 million at the domestic box office. It finished that year as the 11th highest-grossing movie in North America.

Although he hasn’t worked on a film since the production of Bad Boys: Ride or Die, Smith has appeared on TV since then. In January 2026, he hosted Pole to Pole with Will Smith, a National Geographic travel series in which the actor gave himself a series of intense challenges to tackle across 100 days.

During the show, he was filmed skiing to the South Pole, catching a giant anaconda, milking a venomous tarantula and diving under the ice of the North Pole.

The month before Pole to Pole aired, he made his first and only appearance in Bel-Air, the Peacock series that reimagined The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Smith appeared alongside Jabari Banks’ Will at the end of the series finale as a character who was referred to only as “OG” and offered advice to the young man who was nervous about returning to Philadelphia for college after settling into his life in California.
